About RavensCtApothecary

botanical perfumery & mineral skincare

I love books. And fancy quirky vintage things. And everything handmade. So it stands to reason I created Ravenscourt Apothecary to blend great literature, scents and natural body care products.
I use characters from both well-known and more obscure Victorian-era writers and poets to create the perfect blend for body and soul. You get a slice of great literature and nice fragrant things: vegan soaps, botanical perfumes, beeswax salves, lip balms, and more. A lot of thought, care and love goes into those little creations before they reach you: I make sure that I use those quaint old-fashioned novels as an inspiration. If I name my botanical fragrance Jane Eyre, it's because to me, it's the expression of this remarkable character in the form of a scent. A scent that is both lovely to wear and is good to the earth and your body, as I only use the most clean, simple and natural ingredients in my products. They never have any hormone-disrupting, asthma-causing artificial chemicals.
I also abstain from using palm oil in any of my soap products, as its harvesting and manufacturing practices are harmful for the environment and endangered species like orangutans and Sumatran tigers.
As a compassionate vegan and animal lover, I care about sustainability, green living and the cessation of animal testing. I do my part by catering for fellow vegans, vegetarians, or people who are looking for a unique gift that has a story to tell.

Additional policies and FAQs
BOTANICAL FRAGRANCES FAQ:

Botanical fragrances do not act the same way as store-bought alcohol-based ones. They do not have the same harsh intensity, nor will they last all day long. This is because they lack chemical fixatives, which are linked to allergies, migraines and hormone disruptions. All my fragrances are made using essential oils, resins and absolutes. No alcohol, phthalates or synthetically produced fragrance oils are used, ever.

Botanical fragrances I make all come in a portable form, so you can refresh the scent as needed. They are formulated to be hypoallergenic but individual intolerances may still occur, patch test is recommended, as with any new cosmetics. If a rash occurs, discontinue use immediately. If you're pregnant or nursing, please consult your doctor before using any products containing essential oils.

BLOGGERS: I do not do collaborations, but if you want to feature my product(s) on your blog, please request permission before using my images.

Care instructions

Your natural soaps will last you much longer if you allow them to dry between uses.
Please store your natural botanical fragrances, beard oils and toners away from direct sunlight and heat.

Do your fragrances have phthalates in them?

My fragrances are made with only natural ingredients of plant origin. I do not use any synthetic materials in my perfumes. They are completely free of phthalates, parabens, denatured alcohol and animal cruelty.

Do you use lye in your soap making?

Yes, but so does any other soap maker under the sun. Soap is the result of a chemical reaction between fats and alkali (lye), during which both are transformed into a completely new substance - soap! Please rest assured there is no lye (or sodium hydroxide) in the finished product. My soaps are very mild and safe even for sensitive skin.

How are botanical fragrances different from regular alcohol-based ones?

Botanical fragrances do not act the same way as regular store-bought ones.

I'm a blogger. Can you send me a free product for a review?

Unfortunately I am unable to send free stuff for a review, but if you want to feature my product(s) on your blog, it would be nice if you asked me about using my images first. Thanks!
