The recipient is REALLY pleased with them! They were also created and shipped super quickly, considering how they were custom made--ordered over a holiday week no less! Couldn't be happier with these. Thank you so much, highly recommended!

About

Giving Back, one handmade item at a time

We have been blessed beyond measure and have a deep desire to "give back". This shop was set up to help us accomplish this purpose.

Raven's Rascals' etsy shop began in 2010 as a way for our family's Relay for Life team to raise money for the American Cancer Society. As our main fundraiser, 100% of the proceeds from the sales in this shop were donated to the ACS.

Beginning in 2013, we expanded our giving back to include not only the ACS, but our local high school theater club, choirs and orchestra.

Now in addition to the above, we've added Share Vancouver (http://sharevancouver.org/) and The Foundation for Vancouver Public Schools (http://foundationforvps.org/) to our list of choices for you to choose to help us give back.

One thing has not changed...100% of the proceeds will continue to be donated to "give back" to our community.

    Owner, Maker, Crocheted Items

I love using crochet to benefit others! My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was about 12. I picked it back up about 18 years, one husband and 4 kids later! I love challenging myself to learn new things and think outside the box!

FAQ's

1. How are "proceeds" determined?

Pricing Policy:

Proceeds are the amount left after cost of material + online fees (PP and Etsy). S&H is separate. While we do not do this for our living, we try to keep our prices inline with those that do so that we do not take business away from them with "cheap" prices.

The amount to be donated will be shown in the listing so you know exactly how much will benefit the organization of your choice!

2. Do you make made to order or custom items?

Only items that are listed as Made to Order. Due to family obligations, there is less time in the day for crochet and therefore we've cut back on the amount of items available made to order. If there is something you see, but is not listed as made to order, we can refer you to another crochet artist.

3. What is the process of obtaining recycled sweater yarn and why do you do it?

First, thrift stores are scoured for good deals on usable sweaters. Sweaters are checked for the type of seams they have, fiber content, price and color. Those that make the cut are washed and air dried. Then the real fun begins. Seams are cut and sweaters return to their original panels. Then the end of the yarn is found and the unraveling begins. After each panel is unraveled, the yarn is wound into a yarn cake. The entire process of cutting, unraveling and winding takes about 4-5 hours each sweater. The yarn is then made into something fun. Our favorite pattern for sweater yarn is Moogly's Artfully Simple Infinity Scarf (http://www.mooglyblog.com/artfully-simple-infinity-scarf/). The why is because it's like a treasure hunt finding sweaters with unusual colors and/or fibers and turning them into something completely different and one of a kind. It's even rescuing some sweaters as it doesn't matter to the unraveling process if it has a hole or not. Someday we may even begin to sell the sweater yarn so others can join in on the fun!
