5 out of 5 starsI am so happy with the print and the overall service! The print is beautiful, and the handwritten card with another beautiful print on the front was such a surprising and lovely touch. This also shipped incredibly fast. I will absolutely recommend Colette's shop and I'm sure will order other gifts in the future. Thanks so much for a special gift for my niece!

Perfectly Imperfect
Hello and Welcome to Raw Art Letterpress where everything is perfectly imperfect!
My sister Sue and I opened Raw Art Letterpress in 2009. Sue runs the business end of things here as well as her own shop, Lulu Bug Jewelry.
I am a full time printmaker and maker of all sorts of things - I come from a long line of crafty gals. I make everything in my Mount Shasta, CA workshop, nothing is outsourced.
I am often asked "what is the name of the font you use?" Raw Art Letterpress prints are made with hand drawn and hand cut letters, so you won't find the 'font' available anywhere but here. Many of my graphic design prints feature type that has been hand drawn by me, though I do use typefaces designed by others in some of these prints.
Sister Corita Kent is my printmaking hero - she was known as the 'Joyous Revolutionary' and spread words of inspiration and love through her work. You may not know her by name, but if you were alive in the USA in 1985, you have seen her work as the Rainbow Love postage stamp.
Sue's shop is Lulu Bug Jewelry. She offers, amongst other amazing work, handmade silver charms made from my prints. http://www.etsy.com/shop/lulubugjewelry
We are still working on this page, so please stop by again - Cheers! Colette & Sue

Giclee / Fine Art Printer
LA, CA
Currently, I am not producing prints 16x20 and up in my workshop. I am using an outside printer who uses the same archival quality paper and archival pigment inks that I do, so the quality is the same. Let me know if you have questions - thanks! Colette
Shop policies
- ABOUT MY WORK:
I sell Handmade Original Raw Art Letterpress prints, Giclee / Museum quality Fine Art Reproductions of my original prints, Giclee prints of original illustrations and typography and commercially printed greeting cards. More about these below.* If you are looking for traditional letterpress, my prints are probably not for you. Everything is perfectly imperfect, handmade and quirky, hence the Raw in Raw Art Letterpress.
HANDMADE ORIGINAL PRINTS
are made from hand cut plates and letters and printed with a letterpress method of my own invention - my prints are not linocuts or woodblocks. I draw and cut by hand every letter and shape you see, I cut the plates, set the type and press the prints by hand. Sometimes the plates are perfectly square, close, but authentically imperfect. Since I hand press each piece, there may also be variation in ink coverage. the ink is, as i like it, textured and goopey. I call the process "Raw Art Letterpress"
The plates I use have a very short life span. I usually make about 20 prints per plate, then may make a new plate with the same quote but each plate is entirely new and never the same. The version of the print shown may vary from the one you get as slight design variations have evolved over time.
GICLEE FINE ART REPRODUCTIONS and ORIGINAL ILLUSTRATIONS:
I make Giclee reproductions of my original prints, graphic prints with my own fonts as well as standard fonts.
GICLEE PRINT QUALITY:
These are Fine Art, Museum Quality Prints. I use super-heavy matte archival paper and an Epson Professional 3880 printer using the most current technology UltraChrome K3™ technology inks. These prints are rated to last generations without discoloration.
GICLEE COLOR: Computer screens can display color very differently - if an exact color match is important to you, you may send me samples of your colors via usps or your postal service of choice. Color charts are guides for the giclee prints and not the handmade prints.
SIZES: Prints are designed to fit in standard sized frames unless otherwise noted. I make the inky area a bit smaller than the mat opening so, as is traditional in printmaking, the inky edges show
ALL PRINTS ARE SOLD UNFRAMED and UNMATED - some listings may show prints in frames - these are not included with your purchase. All prints are sold UN-framed and UN-mated. I do not offer framing services - the cost to insure and ship the prints framed is not cost effective for you. Most of the frames shown were purchased in the US at Aaron Brothers or Michael's Crafts.
WATERMARKS - these will not appear on your print
SIGNED - All prints are attributed, signed and dated on the front in pencil as is traditional in printmaking.
LULU BUG JEWELRY: Sue from Lulu Bug Jewelry makes silver pendants from some of my prints. These may be shown in my listings but are NOT included with your order - please see www.lulubugjewelry.etsy.com to purchase the jewelry Sue is the co owner of this shop.
