Getting Dressed

My mother is an artist of many mediums and taught me to sew at an early age. I can truly say with pride that I was sewing (and knitting) well before it was "trendy." It was just something I always liked to do, and when I graduated college I took it on with more seriousness.

In 2007 I started teaching myself how to make my own patterns, and my obsession was born. Ready Ruthie is for all kinds of women. It's fun and youthful, yet women 60+ wear my dresses.

I work full time as a vocational rehabilitation counselor and I am a licensed social worker. I have become quite inspired by the women in my field and also sensitive to their wardrobe needs. Having been in the education and social services fields for most of my life (any job I've ever had pretty much falls into these categories), I am acutely aware of the difficulty in finding clothing that is appropriate for work yet still cute and unique.

My present goal is to design clothing that is beautiful, unique and ever so retro inspired, but still discreet and totally appropriate for the types of work settings that so many women inhabit.

I draft all of my patterns from scratch with the flat pattern making method. I test patterns with scrap fabric and try them on multiple times to ensure best fit, often stabbing at myself with Sharpies to mark where I need to take something in or cut. I wear my own clothes which helps me hone in on any small adjustments as well.

Soon, I will be opening my pattern shop for home sewers!

Shop policies

I support an overall shift toward investing in garments that can remain a timeless part of your wardrobe. Added perks include the knowledge that you are not supporting unethical production. I know you've worked hard for your money and I truly see this as an investment, so I want to work closely with you to make sure it pays off!

Accepted payment methods

Paypal Mastercard Visa American Express Discover Apple Pay Klarna Giftcard
Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits
Returns and exchanges
I will work to make sure the garment fits you, so please use me and the sizing chart BEFORE purchasing to ensure size, fit, or feel, or to identify a custom size that would better suit you. One of the joys of etsy is the option to have a collaborative, customer-centered experience vs. buying something generic.

I have struggled to identify hard and fast rules about refunds, but the bottom line is that I want you to be satisfied, and I stand behind my product. If you are dissatisfied with the garment when it arrives, please get in touch immediately and I will do whatever I can to remedy the situation. You have three days from receipt of the garment to get in touch with me with any concerns. After that point the purchase is final.

If a refund is in order, this is contingent on the garment making its way back to me in the condition I sent it.
PayPal is the preferred method of payment. I will not begin constructing or ship the garment until I receive payment and full sizing instructions.
I ship via USPS Priority Mail. Convo me if you need faster, or cheaper shipping. Included in your total cost is delivery confirmation and insurance.

***INTERNATIONAL SHOPPERS: I am happy to ship internationally, also with Priority Mail which is supposed to arrive within 6-10 days at a cost of $15 for most countries. This is the default shipping option for international. PLEASE NOTE that in some countries I have not found this to be a great service. For Sweden and Germany, I recommend getting Priority Express shipping. It is more expensive (about $50 USD) but more dependable. Please contact me before ordering to use this shipping option for any country.
Additional policies and FAQs
I work full time in community mental health (hopefully not for long!!!) and this, coupled with doing made-to-order, means I need up to 10 days to complete garments before shipping, particularly if I am juggling multiple orders. I take my time with each garment to ensure it is neat and thorough. This attention to quality naturally means a bit of a longer wait.

Depending on the source of my fabrics, I cannot always get enough fabric to make the same thing more than once or twice. However, I CAN work with you to create a one of a kind garment for you with other fabrics available to me! If you see something that has sold or isn't the right size, CONTACT ME and together we can design something just for you.
