MY STORY :

As a young child I can remember exploring many different creative expressions. If I wasn't hosting my very own baking show in the kitchen or soliciting my younger sister to put on a fashion show and walk the 'runway' (hallway), then I was outside creating a mock house floor plan with the fallen maple leaves in the front yard.

Growing up in West Michigan meant experiencing the four seasons in their purest form. Because of this, my imagination was always running wild, brewing up something new and exciting with each turn of the season. I was fascinated and mesmerized with rocks and minerals, planets and dinosaurs, found objects and trinkets, snowflakes and botanicals, sandcastles and mud. I was an explorer and designer at heart.

I owe my love for fashion and jewels to my grandmother, Regina. She reminds me of Lucile Ball...dresses, lipstick, jewels, punchiness and all. Often times, I would joyfully sneak into her bedroom to adorn myself with her gorgeous statement jewelry, paint my lips red and try on her sparkly heels. She was a fashion icon in my eyes. A classic beauty.

Years had passed before I would find myself surrounded by jewelry, once again. This time, I was 15 years old and working at the local jewelry store, owned by my tough lovin' neighbor, Gary. He carved the path for me and completely trusted me to do repairs, sand, buff, solder and even sell some diamonds. Little did I know, I would one day pursue jewelry design as a career!

If you were to ask me in college if I viewed myself as an artist, I would have said, absolutely not! I thought artists to be painters and sculptors and I couldn't do either. I was yet to discover what the true definition of an artist was, for me. After graduating from WMU, I entered the corporate world. Here, I excelled, but felt an undeniable void. My work felt colorless and lifeless. My corporate job took me to Los Angeles, California - a spontaneous five- year adventure that I'll forever hold near to my heart. Los Angeles inspired me to uncover my creative self again. I was introduced to a vast and and vibrant creative world and was reconnected to my love of jewels. My creative spirit began to awaken from a deep deep slumber.

My deeply rooted kinship with nature, combined with my journey and rediscovery in LA, has led me back full circle to where my creative expression began, Michigan.

WHAT IS GOLD FILLED?

Gold filled metal is made by bonding a layer of gold, usually 50-100 times thicker than plating, to a base metal, usually sterling silver or brass, using high heat and pressure.

This results in a metal that is very durable and does not flake off or rub off. It is much less expensive than solid gold.

SOLID GOLD vs. GOLD FILLED vs. GOLD PLATED

SOLID GOLD: Solid gold is a soft precious metal that comes right from the earth. Most expensive, will not turn your skin green, will not flake or peel. Skin allergies unlikely.

GOLD FILLED: Wears just like solid gold. Durable and does not flake or rub off. Much less expensive than solid gold. Like solid gold, gold filled metal will eventually tarnish over time. To clean, use a polishing cloth or soft soapy water. Skin allergies possible.

GOLD PLATED: Gold plated metal has a thin layer of gold deposited over a base metal such as copper or silver. Least expensive. Will eventually loose it's brightness and color, rub and flake off. Can turn skin green. Skin allergies common.

HOW TO PUT MY NOSE HOOP IN?

My nose hoops are inherently thin and need to be handled very gently and carefully.

1) using clean hands - simply unhook and pull hoop gently in opposite directions

2) insert the side with the 'small L hook' gently into your piecing from the OUTSIDE of your nostril and work your way DOWN into piercing, UP, OUT and AROUND so that both the 'small L' and 'eye (small loop)' are now exposed

3) again, pull hoop gently in opposite directions to re-align the 'small L' and 'eye' (not yet hooked)

4) after these two ends are aligned, now you can ever-so-carefully and slightly push the 'small L' down, under and into the 'eye'. The 'small L' end will spring up into the 'eye' closing the hoop

5) gently work the closed hoop ends back into your nose

HOW DO I MEASURE MY NOSE?

Please refer to my measurement guide in the description section of any nose hoop listings (you may have to scroll down a bit.) If you need additional help, please send me an email.
