Old becomes new again at Red Barn Artisans

I started my shop in 2009 when my mother was sewing tote bags and she was accumulating more than she could give away. I thought that perhaps she and I could work together and bring several types of handmade items to the internet marketplace. Life changed somewhat and our shop got put "on hold" for over a year.

In 2010, my daughter joined the ranks of Red Barn Artisans with lots of inspiration and great ideas. It was at that point that I decided to begin inventing our shop. We tried some different products and marketing ideas but in the end discovered that what we really needed to do was to create what we really love first and then put only these items in our shop. We had been making the mistake of creating items we thought Etsy shoppers would flock towards, only to find that this doesn't work. You have to put your heart into what you are selling.

In 2011, I discovered my deep love for gourds and creating with gourds. I had grown hundreds of gourds in our garden bumper crop year of 2010. I stored them to dry in our back sheds. I started to find inspirations in the shapes and I experimented with dyes and paints and tools. My creative journey with gourds began and I will be on this journey for a long time.

Today, I look forward to continuing to create gourd items. Ideas are brewing in the back of my mind as my 2013 crop is blossoming in the fields.

I love my shop and most of all I love my customers. They inspire me with their questions and their faith in Etsy shopping. I operate my shop on a part time basis as I am a Certified Public Accountant preparing tax returns during tax season and I also am a hops farmer along with my husband. We have another Etsy shop where we feature our hops and hops products which is call Black Creek Hops.

I am a creator. I love to take things that are created by nature and and transform them into new and purposeful items. I also love to take items which are destined for the trash bin and recycle them in the same way that I do with nature's discards.
