Happy 2023!
Each of my creations are made with love and attention to detail by me in Southwestern Vermont. My stoneware dishes are durable and chip resistant and are meant for everyday use. Everything is safe to put in the dishwasher and microwave and requires no special care. I strive to provide the highest quality and use the finest materials, and I never use lead glazes.
I am grateful to work from my little Red Barn Pottery studio and in my farmhouse built in 1812. I share with you the joy of my work through my small batch handmade pottery. I am an organic gardener, flower lover, and foodie cook, so everything I make from clay is close to my heart.
I employ sustainable crafting whenever possible. Reduce, reuse, and recycle is my way of life and is integrated into my business practices. I use rags instead of paper towels and reuse or recycle all of my materials. To safely package pottery takes a lot of resources. I work towards sustainable packaging, and I source and gather the bulk of my shipping materials that would otherwise end up in the landfill. Please recycle or reuse all that you can when you receive my carefully wrapped parcel.

Red Barn Pottery Studio is the closest little barn of the two.
I LOVE CLAY!
My pottery is inspired by my love of plants, nature, and elements such as fire and water. I often work with plants and flowers that I have hand-collected from my extensive gardens or on my daily walks in the Vermont woods. I am also moved by the love of mother and child and the whimsical spirit.
All of my work is hand-built and hand-painted using combinations of slips, under-glazes, and lead free glazes. Though similar patterns and designs are recreated, no two pieces are exactly alike.
Clay is transformational, meditative, and exciting to work with. There are many surprises that can happen during all of the various stages of the clay process. Sometimes when I open the kiln everything is fabulous and beautiful. Other times there are cracks, drips, and breakages. Working with clay provides the opportunity to accept what life brings and not get too attached. I have been learning my craft through experimentation, and I my work continues to evolve as I witness trials and errors and what I love.
Back Story:
When we purchased our 1812 Vermont farm house we were imagining how we might use the little red barn on the property. I told my husband, “I have always wanted to have a pottery studio!” With my husband's support, I purchased a few bags of clay, a how-to ceramics book, and a used kiln. My hobby became my passion which I have been able to develop into a small business.
I started my working career as an elementary school teacher with a Masters in Education (not in Art) and taught for most of my adult life. I juggled teaching part-time and making pottery for many years, and for over a dozen summers I turned my pottery studio into a clay camp for kids. As of June 2020 I retired from teaching, and I am thrilled and grateful that I can turn a passion and a hobby into a successful business!!
Thanks for reading my story! Please feel free to contact me with questions or comments.
