I found this painting of Jamaica Pond on Leslie's page as a formerly "sold" item. I contacted her to see if any additional prints were available and she was kind enough to make a replica of the original from scratch - within only a few days! The painting is lovely - even nicer than the original - and Leslie was so wonderful to work with. I am buying this for a friend who loves this Pond and it is going to mean so much to her. Thank you Leslie!!

I can't say enough about the amazing painting Leslie created for a special anniversary for me and my husband! With only a small, poor-quality internet photo, Leslie was able to recreate the place we met exactly--down to every little detail including the faded writing on the outdoor cooler. The colors she chose gave the painting a sort of vintage feel--perfectly matching the old time, country ambiance of the actual location. The painting exceeded my wildest expectations. Leslie is such a tremendous talent--we are already planning what we'll have her paint for us next!

Awesome painting, I was so glad when it arrived. You could definitely tell that Leslie puts a lot into her work. The package arrived on time and was packed very well. She even left a very nice thank you note to go along with the picture. I will definitely be buying from her store in the future.

Cubicle to Classroom to Studio

As a small child from Derby, Kansas, Leslie Wise spent endless enchanted hours of her childhood exploring and nurturing her propensity to draw, paint, sculpt, and create. Sometime before she was handed her high school diploma, but after she gained the nickname “Red”, Leslie thought about her future. During this process, the tedium of impending adulthood and a deep (albeit misguided) respect for practicality turned the lights out on the right side of Red’s brain.

Whether it was the promise of a well-paying job at the end of the tunnel, or the $1.50 Almost Anythings on Tuesday nights in Lawrence that kept her sane, Red earned her Chemical Engineering degree, lifelong friends, and an undying love for KU Basketball upon graduation in 2006 from the University of Kansas. She then moved to Houston to begin her seemingly bright future as a number in Corporate America. After being laid off in 2009, Red knew she was faced with an opportunity to change the course of her career. She decided not to reenter the engineering industry and moved to Austin to change the future of our youth, via basic linear equations. As a public high school math teacher, Red’s right brain started feeling around for the light-switch. She started taking time to indulge her desire to create. After a few memoir-worthy outbursts from her students and being on the wrong end of hormone-fueled teenage wrath, she began to relate to their endless questions of “Why do I have to do this?”

By the time of the decision to not renew her contract for the 2012-2013 school year, all cerebral lobes were lit, and Red decided to make her long-lost love of creating art part of her daily life. She’s navigating the uncertain, but promising and fulfilling, path of life as an artist with a happy spirit and a bright-eyed perspective of everything around her.
