About

A place of refuge

refugium (re-fu-gi-um) n. A place that has escaped ecological changes occurring elsewhere and so provides a haven for relict fauna and flora. From Latin, 'place of refuge.'

Why refugium? When I first learned about Etsy, it struck me as a place of refuge. A spot where creative makers, tinkerers, artists, dreamers, and gatherers could meet and trade their wares, away from the crazy world of malls and giant box stores. A place where our unique abilities and vision can be appreciated, a place where handmade items will be valued for their true worth, and those with a keen eye can curate collections of interesting castaways so they might be enjoyed once again.

As someone who has chosen to live on a small island a step away from the noise of the world, this idea resonated with me immediately. My shop, refugium, is my place within this larger haven we have all created through Etsy.

Any other questions? Feel free to contact me and I'll do what I can to make things easy for you.
Shipping
Orders are shipped within two days of being received. If for any reason I am away and cannot ship within that time frame, my shop announcement will let you know when I plan to return and the date orders will be shipped.

Although this has not been a problem, I cannot be responsible for packages lost in the mail. If you would like your package insured, let me know before you place your order and I will adjust your shipping cost to reflect the new rate.

DOMESTIC: All orders will be shipped by USPS First-Class Mail or Priority Mail. Large/heavy packages may be shipped by Standard Post. Books are shipped as Media Mail. Both Standard Post and Media Mail take a bit longer for delivery; if time is a concern be sure to let me know. I will refund any shipping overage over $2.50.

INTERNATIONAL: All orders will be shipped by the least expensive option, usually USPS First-Class International Mail. Please note that international shipping costs are based on rates to Australia, which is generally the most expensive destination. If the actual shipping cost to your country is less, I will refund any overage over $2.50. If you would like a more specific idea of what shipping will be to your location, please convo me for a quote and I will add your country to the listing.

A friendly reminder that any customs fees incurred at the time of delivery are at the discretion of your country's tax regulations, and are the responsibility of the buyer.

PACKAGING: I use of as much recycled packing material as possible. Great care is taken so that your item stays clean, safe, and reaches you in good order. If you are sending an item as a gift, let me know so I can give it that extra special touch that will bring a smile to whoever opens it!
Refunds and Exchanges
VINTAGE: All vintage sales are final. Vintage items are sold as is and I do my best to accurately describe and photograph them. Remember that these items have lived previous lives, so flaws are inherent to their character!

HANDMADE: Handmade items may be returned if there is a defect that was somehow overlooked. I will also gladly do what I can to fix any problem, if possible. Request for return must be made within 3 days of receipt of your purchase, and item must be in its original, unused condition to be eligible for exchange or refund.

Please contact me with any questions or concerns. I'm glad to help in any way to ensure a positive transaction!
