big city girl trades heels for wellies

Being a hybrid of creative and a geek and thus not being a mall rat type, I have shopped for and worn vintage since my teens. I love to find it and wear it, and our 300 year old cottage (and yes, it has wisteria and roses growing on it, and a picket fence too) is furnished with items including furniture, from the 1700s to the modern, shabby chic x Bohemia.
After many adventures, I met Mr Masha quite by accident. He convinced me to settle down in the countryside and behave myself. But I have to have a mission that makes the world better. Something hands on. And then I met Bibble, a wonderful, funny, and loving bunny who taught me how to love rabbits.
Why rabbits? They are the most neglected and abandoned animal in this country, that is why. The government has done nothing to improve this, despite many people contacting them and asking them to. Rabbits are wonderful, intelligent, and often comedic creatures who can teach humans a thing or two about trust, hope, and love. And they make wonderful house pets.
But they cost money to feed and take to the vet. This shop and my 2 others, The Hare Apparent (rabbit beds and toys) and Che Bunnera (hats) support the sanctuary.
This shop is not where you will see stick thin models and glaring white backgrounds. It's more real than that, and the people who model for me are interesting and intelligent. Here the models are not on the tomato and Diet Coke diet, they eat their potatoes. One of them rescues wildlife, one rescues rabbits, one works for an international charity that helps preserve wildlife habitat worldwide, and one is an artist and a vet student.
NO REAL FUR in this shop. It's not glamorous to wear and never has been. It's execrable to do so.
Please have fun shopping here. I shall have fun serving you.

"There's no excuse for (wearing real) fur in this day and age...The beliefs I was raised with - to respect animals and to be aware of nature, to understand that we share this planet with other creatures - have had a huge impact on me." Stella McCartney

My humble opine: everything we do matters.

I practice greener living. All the electricity used to photograph and put my piccies on the Net is from green sourced energy like windpower and solar, traded by our electricity company here in the UK with a Scottish energy company who deals in green energy. All the packing and shipping materials I use are recycled. Bubble wrap is recycled. If it comes in a grey shipping bag, that's also made of recycled plastic.

When I go out to hunt for treasure, I use mass transpo or I walk. When I take your goodies to the post office, I walk. Score another one for the environment.

Buying vintage items to wear and decorate your home with is the best form of recycling - it's reuse. Reuse is a powerful consumer message to the big corporations who mass produce and don't give a toss about the environment. If you have any arty inclination, intelligence, or anti-establishment of mind, it's also so much more appealing than wearing what everybody else does and being dictated to what you should look like. And definitely, no one dictates to me what I put in my house or what colour I paint the walls. Eclectic reigns supreme.

There is no smoking in our house. No dogs or cats either for those of you who are allergic. We do have a few house rabbits (who are litter box trained) who lounge around downstairs in our house on cushions all day, but they will not come in contact with what I am selling. Unless they see a Stones record.
