About

The Journey To REupped

Sewing and fine needlework has been handed down for generations from my mother’s side of the family. My great grandmother, Eliza, who lost her husband early in life, supported her family by providing custom tailoring. Her customers loved her work and would bring extra fabric so she could make my grandmother, Pearl, a new dress. She passed her skills on to Pearl, who crafted my mother's clothes...from her to my mother, from my mother to me, and from me to my own daughter. Even though a forensic accountant for 35 years, needlework was always my favorite creative outlet.

REupped, my Etsy shop, had been a dream that had its roots when a young mother. My daughter, Holly, was both the catalyst and muse. She never wanted to wear "Big Box" clothes to the junior high school parties and dances where five other girls would show wearing the same dress. She wanted to be different. However, the biggest leap towards what I do now began during the late 90’s when Holly and I reupped thrift store clothing to get the Seattle “grunge” look.

REupped is a common term, but it is exactly what I strive to do – that is, recycle and upcycle throwaways that still have useful life. Volunteering at a thrift store to help sort donations brought awareness and amazement at what sold in the store at bargain pricing or even yet thrown away by the thrift store as too damaged. Having sewn for many years and as an accountant, who had to “dress for success”, I was familiar with quality fabrics and accessories. It was a natural segue into what has become REupped.

The most exciting part of producing product for the shop is finding great fabrics and accessories that may have some minor damage or simply discarded, but nonetheless in great condition, and contemplating what it will become. Because of this type of raw material sourcing, most everything made is unique or a “one off”.

Welcome!
