About

The reasons behind Rhyme & Reason Books

When I was a little girl, our attic held a bookcase full of children’s books that once belonged to my mother and her cousins. I loved to nestle into the staircase and read for hours, lost in the worlds of characters like Nancy Drew, Cherry Ames, and Trixie Belden. That’s when I first fell in love with vintage books. I liked everything about them — the feel of the delicate paper, the style of the illustrations, and the rhythm of the language (the “rhyme,” so to speak).

I started this shop to help you reconnect with wonderful children’s books from years past. To me, every old book is a treasure, not just the mint-condition ones. When I come across books that are too damaged to sell, I turn them into craft supplies so they can be preserved forever in your handmade creations. Sometimes I make a few things myself. I love child-related ephemera too, so in my shop you also might find every-day treasures like vintage doll clothes patterns, old greeting cards, programs to long-ago school events, or grab bags of various paper items to use in your projects.

But those aren’t the most important “reasons” for this shop. To ensure that today’s children can enjoy reading as much as I did on those attic steps, I donate a portion of all sales to literacy initiatives. Thank you for visiting my shop. I hope you’ll return often to see what I've found for you.

Welcome! I’m a vintage children’s bookseller, freelance writer, library volunteer, literacy instructor, and mother of two voracious readers. I love searching for old books and finding new owners to cherish them.
