RidgeWorksAB is taking a short break
Second Careers after Retirement
We have always had a love for wood and a vision for unique things that can be made from it. Our semi-retirement has allowed us the opportunity to move to a wee house on some land near Lindbrook AB, surrounded by trees, birds, animals, and all the serenity and creativity nature can provide.
When Bill and Ronda were both laid off from their jobs a few years apart (Bill continues to work on a contract basis), they wondered what was "next". Next, it turns out, was a renewed passion for woodworking!
We live in a VERY small house on three acres of mostly forested land, so we built a woodworking "shed" for Bill, which we named Chip. While we now have power in Chip, there is still no heat, and so you can find Bill, in full snowsuit gear in -30C, creating his pieces beside an electric heater. How's that for commitment?!
Ronda now spends a lot of her day in "Giles", a small shed which was already on the land and insulated. Here she creates Sound Wave Art and other smaller pieces. Her electric heater manages to keep this small space warm and toasty all year round. No snowsuit required.
We've been married 39 years, have two grown daughters, a son-in-law, grandson and another grandchild due imminently. Oh, and two Schnauzers complete the family portrait.
We look forward to meeting you through our Etsy shop or perhaps at one of the markets in the Edmonton area, which we love to attend.
Semi-retirement provides time to renew our passion for wood, and our wee house in the forest provides the serenity and creativity. Ronda specializes in the Sound Wave Art and manages most of the administration.
Bill is the genius & muscle behind the woodworking. He disappears into Chip (woodworking shed) & reappears with all manner of items: bowls, trays, charcuterie & cutting boards, keepsake boxes & more. He's only limited by his overly vivid imagination.
