Artist Bio

Like many artists, I have loved drawing and mark making since childhood. When my family immigrated to the US from Taiwan, I recall being unable to speak to anyone in my kindergarten class. But when one student saw my origami creations, the entire class lined up at my desk to receive one; finally, I was able to find a connection. I was always preoccupied with coloring books and observing nature, collecting rocks, and drawing. I won my first art contest in the 4th grade, which took my family to the Ringling Brother's Circus with front row seats and a small bit of pageantry in the show for myself. I continued to draw and create, win awards in school, design T-shirts, posters, costumes and yearbooks through college.

Having a passion for learning, especially about life sciences, I studied biology and medicine. I was fortunate to practice Emergency physician for many years. Yet in in addition to career and raising a family, I've always been sketching and remained curious about making things. In 2015 I began keeping a sketch diary, recording visual snapshots of my daily life in ink and watercolor wash. In spring of 2016, I painted a 12 x 9 foot mural for the school play. The overwhelmingly positive response led to a commissioned painting which reignited my journey into fine art painting. By October of 2016 I began painting nearly every day, and started to study oil painting in January 2017. I entered my first painting events in the summer of 2017, and with some unexpected success and praise, I became emboldened to call myself, “Artist.”

I love the texture, thickness and endless possibilities of oil paint; thus oil is my first medium. Yet, to maintain a daily practice of painting, I carry around a sketchbook and water media (pen, watercolor, casein and gouache.) My subjects are places and people that capture my eye, I find inspiration everywhere, especially where I live in the Portland metro area. While I am primarily interested in landscape, I also paint small still life artworks and portrait commissions. My work has been recognized in local and national painting competitions, and in the collection of people throughout the world and local museums. Please see my complete portfolio and information on commissions on my official website: www.elowobig.com. My newest work is often published immediately on Facebook and Instagram.

For custom orders, please be clear in your Convos the nature of your customization. My priority is to deliver what you have communicated in your vision. Shipping
PACKAGING

My first priority is to deliver your product unblemished by physical handling or weather considerations.

PAINTING AND ART PRINTS are packaged with acid free glassine paper, held against cardboard to preserve corners and edges, and shipped in rigid flat mailers or cardboard boxes to avoid bending.

METHOD OF SHIPPING

All orders will mailed by USPS.

PAINTINGS and ART PRINTS: Paintings and Art prints are shipped by USPS first class or priority class mail depending on package weight. When the weight exceeds 13 oz, it is more advantageous to ship by priority mail. These will be trackable and insured against loss by Shipsurance for domestic and international shipping to Europe, Canada and Australia.

SINGLE CARDS: Single cards are secured in their cellophane packaging with a rigid cardboard. They are mailed with stamped mail for the lowest shipping price possible. Unfortunately, this does not come with delivery confirmation/ tracking information. If you would like to add this option, please purchase this from the store ($1.00 tracking/delivery confirmation shipping + $0.20 listing fee).

Please see listing for details.

MULTIPLE CARDS are shipped in rigid mailers or cardboard sandwiches for protection, which adds to the overall weight. Occasionally this may necessitate a bubble mailer. Because of the inflexibility of the package, or size, USPS considers this a package and therefore the shipping is more. When packages exceed 13 oz, it is usually more cost effective to send by priority mail. If the total cost of shipping exceeds the cost of a "package rate," shipping will be purchased as a package and only then is tracking available.

In addition to the cost of the postage, there may also a small charge for the packaging material (such as bubble mailers, shipping boxes when not free by Priority Mail, USPS). Shipping prices are set as accurately as possible and not intended to make a profit. if you have been overcharged by a dollar or more, I will gladly refund this difference to you. Additional mailing options such as insurance, mail confirmation or others can be requested by convo, and a customized listing can be created for you to adjust for shipping charges.

PACKAGES:
All packages come with tracking information. If you would like to add additional shipping services such as Insurance or Signature Confirmation, please let me know and I will calculate the cost for you and send you a link to purchase this service before shipping your item. USPS policy will accept claims for lost, stolen or damaged packaging ONLY IF insured. In the history of my shop, I have only had one package damaged (priority mail) and one package lost (stamped mail) through USPS domestic mail. However, in order to keep the costs of shipping low for buyers, these are not automatically applied.
International packages automatically have shipping cost applied and are thus insured if offered through USPS International mail.

TIMING

Shipment for ready made items will be made by upon receipt and confirmation of payment within 1-3 business days. Custom orders may take longer, as indicated in each listing. Exceptions to this rule will be during vacation times whereby dates of shipment be clearly posted in the shop banner and shop announcements.

ADDRESS
Items will be shipped to the address you have listed with your Etsy account unless otherwise specified by you in a Convo.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

Customization of pencil gifts are communicated in through Etsy messaging, aka Convos, at the time of purchase. I may message you for clarification if I am unclear with your customization requests.

Original paintings are one of a kind and framing options are at times available. If not listed, please ask and I might have a frame for it. Since framing increases package weight and cost, most of my collectors prefer to frame their own paintings.

Commissions are welcome! Please ask!
