About

::Ritual Remains::

Helen started Ritual Remains in 2014, after a couple years of exploring different ways of making jewelry and art. Her early works consisted of natural materials, such as bone, feathers, wood, and other recycled materials. These elements were all collected during her adventures in the wild and then combined with different metal jewelry components. When Helen made the jump to metal work, everything changed, and she couldn't get enough. Finally, a way to create with her hands a replica of what she experiences with her eyes and heart. From a young child, she has always been at home in nature. When Helen isn't working in the studio, she is either enjoying a new lake, climbing a mountain, or studying the trees in the forests around her. She will spend days and nights in the wilderness around her home in the Sierras, listening quietly and becoming filled with inspiration. The jewelry she creates reflects her passion for the natural, feral world, that has captured so many hearts.

Tavo begun their jewelry work in 2009 when they first started linking recycled jewelry pieces together to make new creations. In 2013 they discovered the metal smithing world. After over hearing someone talking about a jewelers saw and wondering what it was they found the world of metal work. At the time they were starting their own hand sewn lingerie line but the love of metal work took over. They spent a lot of time perfecting the saw and started working with cold connections. When they finally made the leap and learned soldering their love of metal work fully took off. They have always been a maker whose crafting ranges from drawing to sewing to most recently metal work. Growing up in between the forests of Northern California and the rural deserts of East County San Diego nature has always played a huge role in their artistic inspiration and journey.

Helen made the move to South Lake Tahoe, CA. in January of 2017. Tavo lives in Oakland, CA. and they now work together from two separate studios. They decided to combine their passion for jewelry in the beginning of 2016 as 'Ritual Remains' and have been working together since. They strive to push and teach each other new things and love when someone finds a piece they adore and connect with.

John Muir always put it best- “As long as I live, I'll hear waterfalls and birds and winds sing. I'll interpret the rocks, learn the language of flood, storm, and the avalanche. I'll acquaint myself with the glaciers and wild gardens, and get as near the heart of the world as I can".

They hope their jewelry will always be a little piece of home that is with you wherever you go.

Silver, brass and copper are all prone to tarnish over time. This will happen faster in high pollution areas or areas close to the ocean. We suggest keeping a polishing cloth to brighten up your jewelry if you do not like the antiqued, tarnished look. Storing your jewelry in a dry place, away from moisture, will also help. Oxidation may change/wear off over time. We are happy to reapply patina/oxidize your jewelry for a small fee. Message us for details or questions!
