About

Life Changing Weekend

I was asked by my girlfriend if I wanted to learn to quilt. I thought for a moment how silly it was to cut up fabric only to sew it back together again. However, it would be fun to spend a weekend with my girlfriend. That was Jan of 2000.

Since that weekend I have enjoyed creating with textiles. Traditional and art quilts are of most interest to me. Traditional quilts have old stories to tell and many of my family members have left behind their beautiful work for us to continue to enjoy. Art quilts tell a new story of innovation and mixed media.

I have used many different items in my art quilts. Silk flowers, beads, fancy threads, yarns, painting, rubber stamping, basically anything that catches my attention.

Photographs are also a really good starting point for many quilts. They can be made into abstractions of the picture or used as the background for a thread painting.

My decision to open a shop was easy, a small circle of family and friends and way to many homeless projects. My family and friends homes were beginning to look like I lived there. Quilts, pillows wall hangings ect. So.....I needed an additional outlet for my work. In addition to Etsy I have had my work in local gift shops and galleries plus my quilt "I See London I See France" was part of an exhibit at the National Quilt Museum.

I can't imagine what I'd do with myself if I didn't have my studio to get lost in. It has been a wonderful experience sharing my art.

I have always made things. I like looking at all kinds of art but I prefer to live with and create art that has clean lines and a well defined personality. Art is beautiful if you love it!
