This new addition to my mug collection is my favorite of all of them. The colors are vibrant and perfect together. Also, the ribs on the mug mold to your fingers perfectly, making it very nice to hold.

It is very fulfilling to create something unique and offer it to the world.

My passion for pottery was born when I was in college with my first step into a pottery studio. The endless possibilities to create from the soul and the freedom to express oneself through shape and color and through skill and ability was what captivated my heart and has not let go for over 17 years. Stepping into the studio was like leaving fears, inhibitions, and preconceptions at the door and opened up a whole world of creation, expression, and connection that was nonjudgemental, accepting, loving, and welcoming.

My job now as an artist is to take a simple ball of clay, round and squishy, muddy and messy....and craft it into a beautiful creation of art that is useful and adds depth and beauty to someone's daily life. I create to not only add fulfillment to my life, but also to the lives of others with the products I offer.

I throw all my pieces by hand using my potter's wheel. For each order, I weigh out the correct amount of clay and throw them on my potter's wheel, one at a time, transforming them from a lump of dirt into a mug, bowl, vase, etc. After the pieces have dried enough to be held and handled without losing their shape, I put them back on the wheel and trim the base, carve texture, add dots or stamps, and add handles. They are then allowed to dry for several days (usually a week). When I have enough pieces to fill my kiln, they are bisque fired, glazed, and then put back into the kiln for a second firing. The kiln is fired to such a hot temperature (2200 degrees F) that the glaze melts and flows and turns to the beautiful shiny and magical colors intended. After a 16 hour cooling period, I carefully unload the kiln and sand the bottoms of all my pieces smooth with a fine grit sandpaper so there are no rough spots; I don't want my pottery scratching anyone's table and I want it to feel smooth to the touch so you will enjoy holding it. I carefully box up each piece and take them to the post office where they begin their transit from my studio to your door step!

RiverStone Pottery began in December of 2010 when my son started kindergarten. I had the opportunity at that time to return to my love of pottery and have a go at making it a full-time career. I began like most everyone else, with ho-hum photos and an average product, but over the past several years RiverStone Pottery has grown and developed into something that I am very proud of and feel very confident offering to the world. I now have professional looking photos and well-developed beautiful pieces to offer and feel very confident in my work and skill level!

The RiverStone name has reference to my childhood. I would walk along the riverbank, pick up river stones and put them in my pocket. I loved carrying those stones around with me and admiring them for their natural beauty. It made me feel connected to creation and to the earth just as I do as a potter.

Professionally trained as an artist, I hold a BFA with a concentration in Ceramic Art from UNCC.

Inspired by the colors and shapes of the natural world, I often relate the glaze colors on my pieces to the organic inspirations around me: trees, mountains, flowers, leaves, sky, fruits, vegetables, beaches, and rivers. There is such an abundance of inspiration all around!

Thank you for your interest in my work and for supporting my art! I love my job as a potter and your requests and orders very important to me. I produce handmade stoneware in my studio in South Carolina. All of my work is dishwasher, microwave and oven safe and is glazed in food-safe, lead-free finishes. Because of the handmade nature of my work, please expect slight variations in color, texture and size.

Current Turnaround

Custom orders can take up to 8 weeks for completion (usually sooner, sometimes more during busy season).

If you would like to have your custom order shipped directly to the recipient with a note from you included in the box, please let me a know during the checkout process. I would be happy to do that for you.

I can ship the finished pieces to either you or the recipient upon completion.

I create each item from scratch when you order it, and I am the only artist in my studio. My turnaround time varies, based on my current volume of orders.

My personalized pieces can not be made in advance. They are all created and customized especially for you. Pottery is a long process involving drying time, assembly, and multiple firings. My turnaround is typically around 8 weeks, but can stretch out for 3 to 4 months during the busiest times. I can only make so many orders at a time, and I book up quickly.

Please note that pottery can also be unpredictable, as my items are fired to over 2200 degrees. While it is rare, there are occasions where a piece doesn't make it, and has to be redone. (Mostly it's because I'm a perfectionist) I try to plan enough time for an occasional mishap, but please plan ahead and leave plenty of time when ordering.

Our customers rave about our fast shipping! Most regular purchases will ship the day after we receive your payment. In the US, most packages will ship USPS Priority Mail; expect in most cases to receive your package within 2-5 days. Occasionally items will ship USPS Parcel Post or UPS which may take up to a week to arrive. International and APO/FPO addresses and holiday shipping should expect longer shipping times, sometimes as much as 30 days. We include tracking on most of our packages.

We do our best to estimate shipping costs and to combine shipping when possible. Multiple piece orders often ship in separate boxes to prevent breakage.

Please note that shipping costs include actual postage paid plus the cost of the packing materials used to ship your order safely. We encourage you to recycle and reuse once you get your pottery!

International shipping is available! Please contact us with the details so we can calculate accurate shipping costs. Items can be sent to a gift address, or multiple gift addresses- just send us the information. Let us know when you order and we'll include a card too!

Sorry, we do not gift wrap.

Damaged items: I spend a lot of time packaging items to ensure they'll arrive in one piece. If for some reason you receive a damaged item in your box, please keep the piece including packaging so I can make a USPS insurance claim. I will replace the item free of charge including shipping costs.

We do not offer refunds on lost or damaged items on internationally shipped items. I do take extra precautions when packing.

Please visit USPS.com to understand guaranteed delivery options. We cannot accept responsibility for any transport delays outside our shop’s control. Additional policies and FAQs

All of my pottery that is made for functional kitchen use is lead-free and food safe. You can put it in the dishwasher, microwave, freezer...even your oven! Just avoid sudden temperature changes, like taking a bowl out of the fridge and putting it in a 350* oven or putting a hot dish into a sink of cold water.

I am always pleased when customers are anxious to buy more than one piece of my work! However, I do not offer discounts for regular retail purchases. If you're interested in a wholesale order of $500 or more, please contact me with the details.

Everything I make is handmade piece by piece. Due to the nature of handmade goods, slight variations do occur. Each glaze batch and each kiln firing create slightly different color results as well. If you are interested in a set of something, please custom order it and it will all be thrown, glazed and fired together -assuring a better match.

Yes you can, but you may have to wait a while if I don't have what you want in stock right now. I am firing kilns all the time, but it takes several weeks to go from lump of clay to pretty finished mug.

Here's how custom orders work in my shop:
We can discuss (via conversations here on Etsy) the specifics of your order, including the estimated delivery time. Using this information, I will create a custom listing in the shop just for you. Once you purchase the listing, I will get to work crafting your order. Once it's complete, I'll ship it out to you! If you "Like" RiverStone Pottery on Facebook, you might even see pictures of your pieces being made!

Turn around time for custom work depends on the item(s) I am making and where I am in my production cycle. In general, your can expect to wait roughly 4-8 weeks for most custom orders.

All custom work must be paid 100% up front before work starts, including shipping costs.

I do not offer returns/exchanges/refunds on custom orders, except in the case of goods damaged in shipping.
