I use three types of clay. My white clay is made by Laguna (BMix 5), my dark brown clay is made by Standard Ceramic Supply Co (#280), and my speckled clay is made by Highwater (Speckled Brownstone). I make all pieces by hand on my potter's wheel (Brent CXC model).
I bisque fire to cone 06 and glaze fire to cone 5 with a 10-minute hold at the end of some firings. My kiln is a Skutt 1027 electric kiln and I do oxidation mid-range firing.
I first sat down at a potters wheel in 1995 and have made pottery ever since. I’ve sold at craft fairs, pottery festivals, shops, boutiques, and galleries. I’ve sold pottery online since 2009. Selling online, selling direct, and through social media are my preferred ways of selling. I’ve taught pottery classes and individual lessons since 2010.
I use made from scratch glazes from glaze recipes AS WELL AS stock glazes. I am always experimenting with new glaze combinations and making one of a kind designs. I love being creative with the glaze combinations and designs. If you would like to place a custom order, please send me a message and I will get a listing set up for you. If you have any questions send me a message. I would love to hear from you!

5 out of 5 starsI love this bowl! It is even more beautiful in person. Right now, I’m using it as a catch all on top of my book case. It catches my eye every day. I received this item very promptly and in perfect condition. I have already ordered another item from this shop.

5 out of 5 starsBeautiful mug yet again. I love the quality of her mugs, how good they feel in your hands, and how beautiful they look overall! I'm turning into a smaller mug person so these 8-10oz are perfect size for 1 cup of coffee! Well made and honestly my favorite part is the wide based handle for comfort. Will continue to buy Hope's beautifully crafted products!

About RiverStonePottery
It is very fulfilling to create something unique and offer it to the world.
MY STORY
RiverStone Pottery started in a spare bedroom in my first humble little home in Fort Mill, SC. I simply had a passion to create beauty and functionality with my hands, a desire to improve my skills, shapes, and glazes with every piece I made, and then share the results with the world. It wasn’t long before I realized that my work generated both local and international interest and filled a significant void in the market. My story continues today as I have grown to manage a lakefront studio where I invite students into my space to share my skills with them. I am thrilled to invite you to join me in the journey to grow as an artist and watch me expand my skills as a potter.
THE NAME
The RiverStone name has reference to my childhood as well as where I live today. As a child, I would spend weekends playing along the river banks of Lake Wylie, SC. I would walk along the riverbank, pick up river stones and put them in my pocket. I loved carrying those stones around with me and admiring them for their natural beauty. It made me feel connected to creation and to the earth just as I do as a potter.
Today my family lives on that same lake I used to visit so long ago as a little child. It holds a special place in my heart and we enjoy these beautiful surroundings so immensly.

Professionally trained as an artist, Hope holds a BFA with a concentration in Ceramic Art from UNCC.
Inspired by the colors and shapes of the natural world, she often relates the glaze colors on her pieces to the organic inspirations surrounding her: water, sky, trees, wildlife, plants, mountains, flowers, leaves, fruits, vegetables, beaches, lakes, and rivers. There is such an abundance of inspiration all around!

Shop policies
All of my work is dishwasher, microwave and oven safe but to increase longevity of the pieces, hand washing is recommended. Food-safe, lead-free glazes are used. Because of the handmade nature of my work, please expect slight variations in color, texture, and size.
If you would like to have your custom order shipped directly to the recipient with a note from you included in the box, please let me a know during the checkout process. I would be happy to do that for you.
I can ship the finished pieces to either you or the recipient upon completion.
Custom Orders / PROCESSING
--------------------------------------------------
CUSTOM-ORDERS: I create each item from scratch when you order it, and I am the only artist in my studio. My turnaround time varies, based on my current volume of orders.
My personalized pieces can not be made in advance. They are all created and customized especially for you. I can only make so many orders at a time, and I book up quickly, so get your request in early.
Please note that pottery can also be unpredictable, as my items are fired to over 2200 degrees. While it is rare, there are occasions where a piece doesn't make it, and has to be re-made. I try to plan enough time for an occasional mishap, but please plan ahead and leave plenty of time when ordering.

Returns and exchange details
I want you to be happy with your new pottery. Please contact me with any concerns, questions or problems with your order. I work hard to have happy repeat customers! I will gladly replace your broken, damaged or flawed pottery; I'll get your replacement to you ASAP.
I do accept exchanges and returns on regular purchases; however the buyer is responsible for the shipping costs to return the item(s). If it is an exchange, the buyer must also pay to re-ship the new item(s). I am not responsible for damage that occurs to item(s) packed by buyers.
I do not accept returns/exchanges on custom orders.
Payment
Shipping
Please note that shipping costs include the actual postage paid plus the cost of the packing materials used to ship your order safely. I encourage you to recycle and reuse once you get your pottery!
International shipping is available! Please contact me with the details so I can calculate accurate shipping costs. Customs forms will be filled out for merchandise for the exact purchase price with no exceptions. Note that buyers are responsible for any and all duties, taxes and customs charges that may be incurred.
Items can be sent to a gift address, or multiple gift addresses- just send me the information. Let me know when you order and I'll include a card too!
Damaged items: I spend a lot of time packaging items to ensure they'll arrive in one piece. If for some reason you receive a damaged item in your box, please keep the piece including packaging so I can make a USPS insurance claim. I will replace the item free of charge including shipping costs.
Everywhere Else
I do not offer refunds on lost or damaged items on internationally shipped items. I do take extra precautions when packing.
SHIPPING DELAYS – While most of my packages include insurance, tracking, and delivery confirmation, both USPS Priority Mail and First Class International are non-guaranteed delivery methods offered by USPS. Please visit USPS.com to understand guaranteed delivery options. We cannot accept responsibility for any transport delays outside our shop’s control. If we are introducing the delay, we will contact the buyer and workout arrangements to get back on track to a needed delivery date.
International shipping times can range anywhere from 6 days to 6 weeks depending on the country and customs. I am not responsible for customs taxes or fees. Customs rules and fees are different in every country, check with your country's customs laws if you have questions about this.
Please note that the USPS provides a great service at great prices but sometimes delays in shipping and even loss can occur. This does not happen often but it can. Once an item leaves the shop it is completely out of our hands. I hope that if this ever happens to you that you'd be understanding and contact me immediately so I can rectify the situation. My customer's happiness with my products and service is my number one priority. If you happen to experience this I will ALWAYS find a way to get you your product!
INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING WEIGHT LIMITS – If a combined order exceeds the single package limit of 4 pounds for First Class International, I will communicate the additional funds required to upgrade the shipping and complete the order.
Additional policies and FAQs
All of my pottery that is made for functional kitchen use is lead-free and food safe. You can put it in the dishwasher, microwave, freezer...even your oven! Just avoid sudden temperature changes, like taking a bowl out of the fridge and putting it in a 350* oven or putting a hot dish into a sink of cold water.
CAN I GET A DISCOUNT IF I BUY MORE THAN ONE PIECE?
I am always pleased when customers are anxious to buy more than one piece of my work! However, I do not offer discounts for regular retail purchases. If you're interested in a wholesale order of $500 or more, please contact me with the details.
I BOUGHT A BUNCH OF STUFF FROM YOUR SITE HOPING TO GET A MATCHED SET BUT ALL THE PIECES LOOK A LITTLE DIFFERENT!
Everything I make is handmade piece by piece. Due to the nature of handmade goods, slight variations do occur. Each glaze batch and each kiln firing create slightly different color results as well. If you are interested in a set of something, please custom order it and it will all be thrown, glazed and fired together -assuring a better match.
I REALLY LIKE THAT MUG, BUT CAN I GET IT IN A DIFFERENT COLOR?
Yes you can, but you may have to wait a while if I don't have what you want in stock right now. I am firing kilns all the time, but it takes several weeks to go from lump of clay to pretty finished mug.
WHAT IS YOUR CUSTOM ORDER POLICY? DO I HAVE TO PAY UP FRONT FOR CUSTOM WORK?
Here's how custom orders work in my shop:
We can discuss (via conversations here on Etsy) the specifics of your order, including the estimated delivery time. Using this information, I will create a custom listing in the shop just for you. Once you purchase the listing, I will get to work crafting your order. Once it's complete, I'll ship it out to you! If you "Like" RiverStone Pottery on Facebook or Follow RiverstonePottery on Instagram, you might even see pictures of your pieces being made!
Turn around time for custom work depends on the item(s) I am making and where I am in my production cycle. In general, your can expect to wait roughly 4-8 weeks for most custom orders. During busy times, items can take up to 12 weeks for delivery.
All custom work must be paid 100% up front before work starts, including shipping costs.
I do not offer returns/exchanges/refunds on custom orders, except in the case of goods damaged in shipping.
