Welcome to RiverStone Pottery!

I am Hope Fregerio, the potter of RiverStone Pottery. I make everything you see in my shop by hand either on my potter’s wheel or by hand building techniques. I personally glaze and fire all my pieces myself.

I design all my pieces by hand and do not use any molds. All of my work is made with fine white or brown stoneware fired in an electric kiln to approximately 2200 degrees Fahrenheit. Most pieces take 3 – 8 weeks to complete going from a lump of clay to a finished glazed product that is ready to use.

All my work is food safe, as well as oven, dishwasher, and microwave safe. I use non-toxic lead-free glazes.

I feel so safe using my pottery that it is the only ceramics my family uses in our own home! We have 3 kids who use my pottery daily and rarely do we end up with a broken piece! We use it in the microwave, in the oven, and wash the pieces in our dishwasher. My pottery is very durable and ready for daily frequent use. You can use it just like you would use any ceramic piece you would buy at any retail store.

Thank you for visiting my shop and please feel free to connect with me if you have any questions!

About

It is very fulfilling to create something unique and offer it to the world.

THE BEGINNING

My passion for pottery was born when I was in college with my first step into a pottery studio. The endless possibilities to create from the soul and the freedom to express oneself through shape and color and through skill and ability was what captivated my heart and has not let go for over 17 years. Stepping into the studio was like leaving fears, inhibitions, and preconceptions at the door and opened up a whole world of creation, expression, and connection that was nonjudgemental, accepting, loving, and welcoming.

My job now as an artist is to take a simple ball of clay, round and squishy, muddy and messy....and craft it into a beautiful creation of art that is useful and adds depth and beauty to someone's daily life. I create to not only add fulfillment to my life, but also to the lives of others with the products I offer.

THE PROCESS

I throw all my pieces by hand using my potter's wheel. For each order, I weigh out the correct amount of clay and throw them on my potter's wheel, one at a time, transforming them from a lump of dirt into a mug, bowl, vase, etc. After the pieces have dried enough to be held and handled without losing their shape, I put them back on the wheel and trim the base, carve texture, add dots or stamps, and add handles. They are then allowed to dry for several days (usually a week). When I have enough pieces to fill my kiln, they are bisque fired, glazed, and then put back into the kiln for a second firing. The kiln is fired to such a hot temperature (2200 degrees F) that the glaze melts and flows and turns to the beautiful shiny and magical colors intended. After a 16 hour cooling period, I carefully unload the kiln and sand the bottoms of all my pieces smooth with a fine grit sandpaper so there are no rough spots; I don't want my pottery scratching anyone's table and I want it to feel smooth to the touch so you will enjoy holding it. I carefully box up each piece and take them to the post office where they begin their transit from my studio to your door step!

THE NAME

The RiverStone name has reference to my childhood as well as where I live today. Some of my earliest memories are of my parents packing up the family station wagon and heading off to the river cabin. Located on Lake Wylie, SC, we would spend our weekends playing along the river bank, fishing from the dock, waterskiing behind my Grandaddy's boat, sitting in the rocking chairs on the screened in porch, cooking hamburgers on the charcoal grill and napping in the recliner or on the bed. I would walk along the riverbank, pick up river stones and put them in my pocket. I loved carrying those stones around with me and admiring them for their natural beauty. It made me feel connected to creation and to the earth just as I do as a potter.

Today my family lives on that same lake I used to visit so long ago as a little child. It holds such a special place in my heart and we are uncommonly blessed beyond measure to be able to enjoy such beautiful surroundings so intimately.

Thank you for your interest in my work and for supporting my art! I love my job as a potter and your requests and orders very important to me. I produce handmade stoneware in my studio in South Carolina. All of my work is dishwasher, microwave and oven safe and is glazed in food-safe, lead-free finishes. Because of the handmade nature of my work, please expect slight variations in color, texture and size.

Current Turnaround
-----------------------------

Custom orders can take 8 - 10 weeks for completion (usually sooner, sometimes more during busy season).

If you would like to have your custom order shipped directly to the recipient with a note from you included in the box, please let me a know during the checkout process. I would be happy to do that for you.

I can ship the finished pieces to either you or the recipient upon completion.

ABOUT MY PIECES / TURNAROUND
--------------------------------------------------
I create each item from scratch when you order it, and I am the only artist in my studio. My turnaround time varies, based on my current volume of orders.

My personalized pieces can not be made in advance. They are all created and customized especially for you. Pottery is a long process involving drying time, assembly, and multiple firings. My turnaround is typically around 8 - 10 weeks, but can stretch out for 3 to 4 months during the busiest times. I can only make so many orders at a time, and I book up quickly.

Please note that pottery can also be unpredictable, as my items are fired to over 2200 degrees. While it is rare, there are occasions where a piece doesn't make it, and has to be redone. (Mostly it's because I'm a perfectionist) I try to plan enough time for an occasional mishap, but please plan ahead and leave plenty of time when ordering.

Payment
Before I will begin working on your piece(s), payment must be processed via Direct Checkout using a debit or credit card . If you have completed this step, Etsy will notify you with an email receipt. If you find that you do not have a receipt, please return to the Etsy Invoice ( http://www.etsy.com/your/purchases/ ) Hit the Checkout button at the top left hand side of the page to complete payment.
Shipping
My customers rave about my fast shipping! Most ready-to-ship purchases will ship the day after I receive your payment. In the US, most packages will ship USPS Priority Mail; expect in most cases to receive your package within 2-5 days. Occasionally items will ship USPS Parcel Post or UPS which may take up to a week to arrive. International and APO/FPO addresses and holiday shipping should expect longer shipping times, sometimes as much as 30 days. We include tracking on most of our packages.

I do my best to estimate shipping costs and to combine shipping when possible. Multiple piece orders often ship in separate boxes to prevent breakage.

Please note that shipping costs include actual postage paid plus the cost of the packing materials used to ship your order safely. I encourage you to recycle and reuse once you get your pottery!

International shipping is available! Please contact me with the details so I can calculate accurate shipping costs. Customs forms will be filled out for merchandise for the exact purchase price with no exceptions. Note that buyers are responsible for any and all duties, taxes and customs charges that may be incurred.

Items can be sent to a gift address, or multiple gift addresses- just send me the information. Let me know when you order and I'll include a card too!

Sorry, I do not gift wrap.

Damaged items: I spend a lot of time packaging items to ensure they'll arrive in one piece. If for some reason you receive a damaged item in your box, please keep the piece including packaging so I can make a USPS insurance claim. I will replace the item free of charge including shipping costs.

Everywhere Else
I do not offer refunds on lost or damaged items on internationally shipped items. I do take extra precautions when packing.

SHIPPING DELAYS – While most of my packages include insurance, tracking, and delivery confirmation, both USPS Priority Mail and First Class International are non-guaranteed delivery methods offered by USPS. Please visit USPS.com to understand guaranteed delivery options. We cannot accept responsibility for any transport delays outside our shop’s control. If we are introducing the delay, we will contact the buyer and workout arrangements to get back on track to a needed delivery date.

International shipping times can range anywhere from 6 days to 6 weeks depending on the country and customs. I am not responsible for customs taxes or fees. Customs rules and fees are different in every country, check with your country's customs laws if you have questions about this.

Please note that the USPS provides a great service at great prices but sometimes delays in shipping and even loss can occur. This does not happen often but it can. Once an item leaves the shop it is completely out of our hands. I hope that if this ever happens to you that you'd be understanding and contact me immediately so I can rectify the situation. My customer's happiness with my products and service is my number one priority. If you happen to experience this I will ALWAYS find a way to get you your product!

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING WEIGHT LIMITS – If a combined order exceeds the single package limit of 4 pounds for First Class International, I will communicate the additional funds required to upgrade the shipping and complete the order.
Refunds and Exchanges
I take great care in packing my pottery so it arrives safely at your door. Occasionally, damage occurs in shipping. If you have any problem with your shipment when it arrives, please contact me for replacement or refund.

I want you to be happy with your new pottery. Please contact me with any concerns, questions or problems with your order. I work hard to have happy repeat customers! I will gladly replace your broken, damaged or flawed pottery; I'll get your replacement to you ASAP.

I do accept exchanges and returns on regular purchases; however the buyer is responsible for the shipping costs to return the item(s). If it is an exchange, the buyer must also pay to re-ship the new item(s). I am not responsible for damage that occurs to item(s) packed by buyers.

I do not accept returns/exchanges on custom orders.
Additional policies and FAQs
IS YOUR POTTERY FOOD SAFE? CAN I PUT IT IN MY MICROWAVE? WHAT ABOUT MY DISHWASHER?

All of my pottery that is made for functional kitchen use is lead-free and food safe. You can put it in the dishwasher, microwave, freezer...even your oven! Just avoid sudden temperature changes, like taking a bowl out of the fridge and putting it in a 350* oven or putting a hot dish into a sink of cold water.

CAN I GET A DISCOUNT IF I BUY MORE THAN ONE PIECE?

I am always pleased when customers are anxious to buy more than one piece of my work! However, I do not offer discounts for regular retail purchases. If you're interested in a wholesale order of $500 or more, please contact me with the details.

I BOUGHT A BUNCH OF STUFF FROM YOUR SITE HOPING TO GET A MATCHED SET BUT ALL THE PIECES LOOK A LITTLE DIFFERENT!

Everything I make is handmade piece by piece. Due to the nature of handmade goods, slight variations do occur. Each glaze batch and each kiln firing create slightly different color results as well. If you are interested in a set of something, please custom order it and it will all be thrown, glazed and fired together -assuring a better match.

I REALLY LIKE THAT MUG, BUT CAN I GET IT IN A DIFFERENT COLOR?

Yes you can, but you may have to wait a while if I don't have what you want in stock right now. I am firing kilns all the time, but it takes several weeks to go from lump of clay to pretty finished mug.

WHAT IS YOUR CUSTOM ORDER POLICY? DO I HAVE TO PAY UP FRONT FOR CUSTOM WORK?

Here's how custom orders work in my shop:
We can discuss (via conversations here on Etsy) the specifics of your order, including the estimated delivery time. Using this information, I will create a custom listing in the shop just for you. Once you purchase the listing, I will get to work crafting your order. Once it's complete, I'll ship it out to you! If you "Like" RiverStone Pottery on Facebook, you might even see pictures of your pieces being made!

Turn around time for custom work depends on the item(s) I am making and where I am in my production cycle. In general, your can expect to wait roughly 4-8 weeks for most custom orders.

All custom work must be paid 100% up front before work starts, including shipping costs.

I do not offer returns/exchanges/refunds on custom orders, except in the case of goods damaged in shipping.
