About

Sharing The Light

I started stained glass in high school. The only art class I had not tried and so I gave it a whirl! I fell in love with it the moment I broke my first piece of glass. Now, nearly 30 years later, I design my own patterns and run my own small business here on Etsy.

My dog, Leben, was my inspiration to create dog breeds in stained glass. I wanted to see if I could make her little face for the window, and so it began. Even though she passed away in October of 2016, at the age of 15, she still continues to inspire me daily.

I now have over 150 dog breeds in Stained Glass. I've learned so much about each breed, in hopes that I can design them to please not only the pet lover, but also the AKC owner/breeder.

Each suncatcher takes about an hour and a half to crate from beginning to end. The question I get asked most often is, How is it made? The first step is to create the pattern. I design everything I make. I pride myself in never using someone else designs. As an artist, I know the value of copyright and would never want to infringe on someone else rights. So I have learned to design everything, including 3D items. Each day I learn a new technique that only improves my designs in the long run. I then trace each individual piece onto its appropriate color of glass. The fun part is next, cutting! I cut each piece out and place them together. Once it's all cut, I grind the edges so they are smooth and fit nicely together. I use the foil method of stained glass so foiling is next. Each piece has its edges wrapped in copper foil. It's placed evenly over the edges of the glass and then smoothed down on each side. Next up is solder. Each suncatcher is soldered together. I use 60/40 solder. This means that 60% percent is tin and 40% is lead. Once each suncatcher has been soldered I then clean it and patina the solder. Changing the silver of the solder to either black or copper. When finished with the patina I then clean and polish the suncatchers. Now it's time for a bag and then off to the customer!

I take great care with each suncatcher to ensure the best quality. If treated with love, your suncatcher will last a lifetime!

I was given the opportunity to make trophies for the Schipperke Nationals that took place in Chattanooga, TN in March of 2015. A fantastic experience which paved the way for the Alaskan Malamute Nationals in Oct of 2015, in Springfield MA. I'm looking forward to many more opportunities.

I started stained glass nearly 30 years ago. I work with the Tiffany method of stained glass, making my work more delicate looking. I design all my own patterns, which allows me to do anything! Nature is my inspiration! I love creating new items!

Shop policies

Thank you for visiting. I hope you've enjoyed browsing through some of my most recent work. Each item is hand crafted (by me) of genuine stained glass, hand soldered and is an original design, not plastic or glass painted to look like stained glass, but the real thing!
Due to the handmade quality, no two sun catchers will be exactly the same. A photograph does not depict the true color of the glass due to light refection off of and through it. Please allow for these differences when buying stained glass.
Nothing is prettier then stained glass in a window (or on a mirror). I craft each piece to enhance the beauty of nature and bring it to your window.
Thank you for taking a look. I look forward to serving your stained glass needs in the future.

Please read all policies before purchase as they will answer a lot of your question. If you still have questions please contact me before you place your order. Thank you.

Frequently asked questions
Sizing details

All dog and cat suncatchers are about 8 inches in height. Birds and flowers run about 6-7 inches at longest point. Please allow for slight variation to this due to the fact that they are handmade. Photos show them with a six inch ruler.

Care instructions

You can clean all glass with 91% proof rubbing alcohol or any window glass cleaner. Use a clean cloth or paper towel to apply and gently rub in. Dry off with another clean cloth and your done! Never use tap water as the minerals in it can cause white mold to form on your suncatcher. Once this happens, it will not come off.

Gift wrapping and packaging

All suncatchers are wrapped in a clear poly bag with a cardstock topper that has the name of the item printed on it, along with care instructions on the back. A suction cup is provided free in a separate bag. Larger items (wind chimes, panels, lamps, night lights and candle shelters) are wrapped in bubble wrap and come with care instructions on a card. Ornaments come in a gift box.

Wholesale availability

Sorry, wholesale is not available as all items are handmade and this takes time. Glass prices have gone up due to the closing of Spectrum Glass Co and due to other costs, my prices can not be lowered below what they currently are.

Can you make my dog?

Yes! I'd be happy to create your dog in stained glass. Simply provide me with a photo of your dog and I can create the design right from the photo. Suncatcher will be about 8 inches tall. Price is $159.98 as of 3/1/2017. Price includes design fee, 8" Suncatcher, domestic shipping and insurance.

Pet Memorials

To have a memorial of your dog (or pet) please provide a photo of the dog. I make several different kinds of memorials from 10" circles to light boxes. I'll work with you to create the perfect memorial for your pet. Prices range from. $159-$2000

Do you have all items in stock?

No. I simply do not have the space to stock everything in all colors and styles. Most popular birds and flowers are an instock item as well as holiday items. However, dogs, and cats are not. These are solely made to order. Please allow at least two weeks for me to make and ship them. Most times they will ship sooner then this, it just gives you a basic time frame. It will never ship later then two weeks unless you are contacted first about the delay. During holiday time stock does run out and everything does become made to order as well as the first part of the New Year.

Can I just purchase the design?

No, I do not sell my designs in order to offer my customers a one of a kind item, found no where else.

Why don't you accept returns or exchanges?

No refunds or exchanges are accepted because the items are glass and do break. In the past, on the return journey, the items have broken beyond repair due to improper packing, leaving them unsellable. This has forced me to change my policy to a no return or exchange. I do send replacements should your order arrive to you damaged. A photo is required before replacement is sent.

Do you give donations?

No. I receive over 100 donation requests each month and can not financially do this. I have no employees and therefore work entirely alone to fill my orders and create new items. This is my full time job and if I were to give a donation to one person, I feel I have to give one to everyone. I just can't financially do this. I have started doing "fundraisers" with my shop. If you would like more information on this please send me an Etsy conversation.
