Just a little bit about Rock and Metal Boutique..........

Hello and thank you for visiting Rock and Metal Boutique!

Beautiful, artisan jewellery handcrafted from precious metals and coloured gemstones.

I just love everything jewellery! I am a great collector of jewels and tools! I have been making jewellery using hand tools and traditional silversmithing techniques for several years now from my small workshop at home in Kent. I have a wonderful full time job and so making jewellery fills my spare time and is my absolute passion! Many of the items I make are ‘one of a kind’ pieces, so if you have it no one else does!

I find old and ancient jewellery fascinating and it always has wonder and mystery about where it came from and who it once belonged to, what was it's story? So for me jewellery should last forever, a keepsake, a token of love and memories, to be re-discovered in times ahead.

Rock and Metal Boutique style is bohemian influenced - although I very much follow the rules, I do like to do things my own way! My designs are full of colour and I love putting gemstones together, mixing colours and layering items. I try to avoid too much of the mainstream, so here you may find something a little bit different or unusual with a personal touch and an eye for detail.

If you see something you like not available in your size please contact me about a custom order. I do require between 3 days and 3 weeks to make custom items depending on the complexity of the piece and the availability and supply of materials, but I will liaise closely with you and endeavour to meet your requirements.

I aim to make quality pieces of jewellery that will last. I source most of my materials from trusted, wonderful UK based companies who I have used for several years, who supply high quality products. Where possible, I try to source as ethically and environmentally friendly as possible.

Hallmarking and the law in the UK
I am registered with the London Assay Office. Within the UK it is law that jewellery made from Gold and Silver must be hallmarked for legal sales when the weight is more than 7.78 grams for Silver and 1.0 gram for gold, items below these weights are exempt. You can visit the London Assay Office for further details by visiting www.thegoldsmiths.co.uk

I also have an Applied Jewellery Professional Diploma from the GIA (Gemological Institute of America).

I am happy to answer any queries you might have, so please send me a message if you have any questions.

Thank you for visiting
Best wishes
Paula

Frequently asked questions
Care instructions

Handmade jewellery requires thoughtful wear and use. If a bracelet has a clasp, please use it and do not force the bracelet over your hand onto your wrist. Do not submerge stones and pearls in water, do not use polishing cloths & cleaning fluids or chlorine on them. Do not leave jewellery in damp conditions. Avoid getting perfumes, toiletry products on your jewellery. Put your jewellery on last when getting ready to go out. Please do not exercise, shower & bath, swim, clean, garden or sleep in your jewellery. Store jewellery separately, out of sunlight to help prevent tarnishing. Use a cloth to buff any tarnished silver.

Do not polish or use any cleaning products on gold plated silver or gold fill metals as it will ruin the gold finish.

Forming Processes

Some jewellery parts are joined using split rings or crimps, this is a normal industry wide process of making jewellery and care must be taken not to yank or stretch items too much as they may come apart. Where items have been hand made you may occasionally find very slight imperfections due to the forming processes. Today most gemstones will have gone through a treatment process but are still natural and may not always be perfect and exactly the same size or colour, but every effort is made to ensure a super match where necessary. Although jewellery is made from metals and stones it is not indestructible, take care of it well, respect it, having come from the earth and it will reward you with years of wear and hopefully happy memories.

Silver Metals

Sterling Silver 925
Sterling Silver is usually made of at least 92.5% pure silver. Typically the remaining 7.5% consists of copper. Sterling Silver should not contain Nickel.

Fine Silver 999
Pure Silver in its purest form. I like to use Pure (Fine) Silver and Silver Metal Clay (which when fired results in Fine Silver which can be hallmarked) in my work owing to its bright, white shine, but it is a soft metal and this makes it easy to mark and scratch.

Argentium Silver
Argentium Silver is a modification of the traditional Sterling Silver alloy as some of the copper is replaced with Metalloid Germanium creating a stronger, brighter and more versatile precious metal. Argentium Silver should not contain Nickel.

Children

My jewellery is not suitable for children.

Personalise

Many of the items I make can have personalisation added. Please send me a message with any requests and I will do my best to meet your requirements for personalisation. I may require a slightly longer processing time for personalisation, this can range from 3 days to 3 weeks depending on the complexity of the request and sourcing of materials.

Shipping

I use 'Royal Mail Signed For' to ship my items and the package will require a signature upon delivery.

I will give a timescale for producing and shipping custom made orders and this will be agreed with you as the customer to ensure I meet your requirements. I will aim for this to be between 3 days and 3 weeks, depending on the complexity of the item to be made and the sourcing of materials. I will liaise closely with you during the making process and endeavour to meet your requirements.

Occasionally delays with the postal service happen but this is most likely to be around seasonal times of the year or due to severe weather conditions. Unfortunately these events are completely out of my control.

Overseas Shipping

I use 'Royal Mail International Tracked & Signed' for all overseas international orders.

Once the parcel leaves the UK it will be the responsibility of your home country's postal services. I cannot provide a guaranteed delivery date and will be dependent on your customs & postal services. Please use the tracking ID to find out the status of your parcel. Customs duties and charges are the responsibility of the customer.

Buyers are responsible for any customs and import taxes/charges that may apply. I am not responsible for delays due to customs.

Gold Plated Sterling Silver (vermeil) and Gold Fill Jewellery

Gold Plated Sterling Silver 925
Items described as 'vermeil' are made from gold plated sterling silver. For something to be called vermeil it must have a certain thickness layer of gold, otherwise it should be labelled as 'gold plated sterling silver'.

Gold Filled is a wonderful economical, affordable alternative to solid gold. It is considered the closest thing to solid gold which is represented by the price. Gold Filled has a thick layer of solid gold permanently bonded by heat and pressure to a bass metal and does not chip or wear off like plated metals and should last for many years.

Returns

I hope you will be really pleased with your piece of jewellery but if for any reason you are unhappy with your purchase please contact me, as soon as possible, if you wish to return the item (within 14 days).
Unless faulty custom/bespoke items are non-refundable.
I regret earrings cannot be returned or refunded for hygiene purposes.
Please ensure you get proof of posting when returning an item and if you are returning from overseas I would recommend using a tracked service.
The buyer/customer is responsible for paying the cost of the return postage.
Please ensure the item is returned in its original condition, in it's original packaging and sealed securely for the return journey.
