Quill couture is not just a hot trend, it is a way to express your wild inner beauty.

Rooster Shannon, owner and designer of Rooster Baby, has been designing and creating tribal headdresses since 2011. An innovator in the genre of Quill Couture, her work has been featured in several magazines including Dark Beauty, Editorial, Guiseppina and Miroir, as well as in the Denver Westword, Eugene Weekly, FilmQuest and FantasyCon. Her headdresses have also been paraded at such prestigious festivals like Burning Man, Lightning in a Bottle, What The Festival, Oregon Country Fair, BOOM and Shambala. Her art is inspired by and embodies the greatness of Earth's elements and energies and deities throughout all cultures across time. It is intended that the wearing of a Rooster Baby headdress activates the crown shakra to channel Power into the wearer and unleash their inner God and Goddess. Each piece is custom crafted by hand, with intention and love, to connect Ceremony and Play, Dancer & Dreamer. Her headdresses have adorned people exchanging vows of love and commitment, those deep in ritual at altar, as well as upon the heads of dancers and aerialists and playful people dancing til dawn. Unlock your fire, unleash your inner Goddess, and shake those feathers with Rooster Baby.

I am adamant about the ethical issues involved in my work, which is why 90% of my feathers are molted, found & repurposed, and some are from my own birds and from those of my friends'. All the leather I use is from recycled scraps. And all of my eco-friendly pieces are of original, one-of-a-kind design.

All of my feather art is listed for sale on Etsy. I post new feather hair pieces and headdresses as they are made, so check back often for the latest designs. I also make custom orders. If you would like to learn more about me and follow my art and life adventures, you can follow me here or on facebook at: .

Welcome to my Rooster Baby shop! I have been working with feathers for a loooooooong time! Since I was 5 years old, my Mom has been a wildlife rehabilitator who cares for orphaned, sick and injured song birds and birds of prey before releasing them back to their native habitat. Because of this lifelong Nurse Nightingale influence, I have a strong love of and respect for ALL winged creatures and this translates into my art. 90% of my feathers are cruelty-free (molted), found & repurposed. Some are from my own birds or those of my friends. All the leather I use is from recycled scraps. I try to make art that doesn't have a negative impact (chemicals, unhappy birds, etc.) upon our Blessed Earth.

I find inspiration for my pieces in Nature, upon the wings of birds. Sometimes my ideas come from the shadows, shapes in the clouds, or whispered secrets from the feathers themselves.

All of my pieces are of original, one-of-a-kind design. If you would like to learn more about me, see my profile or follow my art and life adventures, go to my Rooster Baby facebook:

All Rooster Baby products and designs which include, but are not limited to headdresses, earrings, clips, gloves, jewelry, etc. are protected by patent and are not available for recreation or reproduction of any kind, except by Rooster Baby. Returns and exchanges
All of my items are one of a kind and well made personally by me, and I do my best to represent them fairly in the photographs from many different angles, but because they are handmade you might find a stray thread or ruffled feather, although the overall piece will be beautiful and everything will be firmly attached.

Please be certain that the item you purchase is what you want before you purchase. If you need extra photos, please ask and I will be happy to provide them. I don't give refunds or exchanges on hair or skin ornaments of any kind of any kind due to health codes and common sense. But, if you are truly unhappy with the item I have made and feel you must return it (but not for buyer's remorse!) you can exchange it for store credit, but you will need to pay the shipping fees (unless the mistake was mine!).

There are no returns on Custom Orders. Custom Orders take special materials, work and extra time to make just for you.

Please also note that many of my items (antlers, feathers with quills, etc.) are fragile and need to be handled with care! You will need to store fragile pieces (like headdresses, etc.) in a safe place, away from sunlight, dust, moisture, pets, pests etc. and wear them with care to avoid broken feathers, etc. Although I hand stitch and glue each feather, it is possible that a stray feather may "molt". But if, heaven forbid, many feathers fall out, please message me, then send it back to me and I will repair it and return it to you without charge.

I want you to be happy with your purchases from my shop and so I make every effort to ensure that each item is beautiful and well made before I ever post it for sale. I appreciate your positive feedback, so if there are any issues, let's converse and work it out. I also LOVE getting pictures in the feedback or on my facebook page (where you can also find Coupon Codes!)!

Many Blessings & Happy Feathering,
Rooster Baby
I currently only accept PayPal. You will have 4 days to pay for your purchase, otherwise it will be relisted so that others can have a chance to purchase it.

Reserving Items:
I do not allow customers to reserve items under $150. All items under this amount are for sale until purchased. Items over $150 can be be held for 15 days if you pay a nonrefundable down payment of half the price of the item. The item must be paid for in full within 15 days, or it will be relisted. I will send you the item when it is paid in full. Coupon codes are not accepted on Reserved Items.

Custom Orders:
I love to make one of a kind feather art and so I welcome Custom Orders. After we have agreed upon the type of item that I will make for you, the length of time it will take to make, and its price, I will create a custom listing for you. Once you pay in full, I will begin to make your custom order and will send it to you within the time detailed in the listing.
In certain instances, I will allow a customer to make 2 payments over 30 days (ex: 1st payment/deposit due by Jan. 30th, 2nd payment due Feb 30th) The first payment is a 50% nonrefundable deposit, and the 2nd half + shipping must be paid 30 days later. If the 2nd payment isn't paid, you will lose the 1st payment as it is a nonrefundable deposit (this pays for all the materials I will need to purchase to make the requested headdress which I cannot return). If you need a little extra time, please notify me BEFORE your due date. I do charge $10/week past the due date. Please understand that my time is valuable. I only take FOUR Custom Orders per month. If I've taken yours, that means I may have had to turn someone else down, so please respect the agreement we have made. Your timely payments are appreciated. :-)
**** Coupon codes are not accepted on Custom Orders.
**** There are no returns on Custom Orders. Custom Orders take special materials, work and extra time to make just for you.

Rush Service:
I do offer Rush Service! But PLEASE message me first to confirm that I am able to complete what you need in time!! I charge an additional 10-20% more for rush orders. This additional charge means that I will bump your order ahead of everyone else's and work extra hard to be able to complete your piece in time to send to you.

I offer Rush Service for 10-20% of the item price:
Need it made in ONE WEEK??: Add 20%
Need it made within 2 WEEKS??: Add 15%

I mainly use the US Postal Service, unless requested otherwise. If you need an item in a hurry, please let me know and I can make a special Shipping Listing for you that will include the charge to upgrade shipping services to USPS Express or FedEx Overnight.

Items in my store:
I typically ship your order 1-3 days after I receive your payment (Monday- Friday). I ship most items via USPS Priority Mail (unless requested otherwise), which takes about 2-4 business days to arrive within the Continental US (depending upon your location), but may take up to 1 week during holiday seasons.

Custom Orders are shipped when finished.

International Shipping:
Please provide your address for a shipping quote. Once provided, I will create a separate listing for the shipping charge. Because I care greatly about the delivery of your headdress, I ship via USPS Priority International with Tracking and Shipping Insurance, USPS International Express with Tracking and Shipping Insurance, or FedEx International with Tracking and Shipping Insurance on all international orders. The possibility of theft, damage, loss, or issues with Customs is not worth the risk.
If you wish to accept this risk and purchase USPS International First Class, there will not be Shipping Insurance or a Tracking Number, and I cannot be held responsible for theft, damage, loss, or issues with Customs, etc.
USPS International First Class typically takes 10-30 business days to arrive. USPS International Priority Mail or FedEx International typically takes 6-10 business days to arrive.

Shipping Insurance:
I now insist that all purchases from me have Shipping Insurance. The charge for this service is now built into the shipping price on orders within the US. It might seem a bit high, but it is WELL worth the peace of mind. What you purchase from me is a highly valuable, one-of-a-kind original piece of art. It deserves to be insured against loss, theft or damage during shipment.

Please be nice to me and don't leave mean feedback for shipping issues that I can't prevent! Just write to me and ask what's up. Oh, and I can't ship to Italy. They don't allow feather hair ornaments through customs.
Additional policies and FAQs
Here is my policy on renting:

Each headdress is made with extreme care and time, with only the best materials and cruelty-free feathers. Since I sweat blood and tears over these babies, I'm a bit protective until they are sold and leave the nest. I have loaned out headdresses, mostly to photographers, but only under the following conditions:

1. A refundable deposit for the value of the piece to ensure that it is either returned in the condition it was lent in, or can be replaced. (But, as I make each piece by hand, that means me making a replacement). A headdress returned with broken quills, feathers, mangled feather barbs, etc. would mean some portion to all of the deposit may be withheld as I cannot sell a headdress in damaged condition. But I provide care instructions so that it is easy to take good care of the headdress so that it can be returned in the same condition it was sent in.

2. A non-refundable rental fee of $100.

3. A 4 day time limit.

4. Priority shipping, with tracking number and shipping insurance is paid by the renter in both directions if shipped.

5. Photos are taken of the headdress just prior to rental to document condition before rental.

6. Credit to Rooster Baby is included with any publication.
