Physically, pranams can serve as sacred training -- increasing circulation as well as sacred strength if the practitioner desires. On the inner level, prostrations can support the difficult emotions that come with the stresses of daily life: anxiety, agitation, uncertainty, doubt, anger, grief. As a circular process, it contains both the lunar relaxation and the solar empowerment whilst letting go and rising up.

Pranams are about our direct contact with the earth below us and the sky of infinite possibilities above us. As a movement meditation it cultivates humility with empowerment. The practice of prostrations is shared in all of the world's spiritual traditions, but was lost in translation when yoga came to the West. Pranams can help people who are already yoga practitioners find a simple and profound daily, weekly, or once a year practice. At any time of day or night you can return to your center, and return to your heart.

Pranams are not just about surrendering to the earth, but they show us how we rise up with empowerment.Surya prostrations cultivate strength and purification. Lunar pranams slow us to the rhythm of nature. Once apply the tools to embody meditation as a natural state, we become a movers, shakers and change-makers wherever we walk in the world.

Prostrations are a healing practice that is both simple and profound. They can benefit all, whether you are in a hospital bed or the night before a big day.

We can see that natural, instinctual flow in movement meditation as our slower breath begins to lead the movement. Physiologically there is an instantaneous effect as we touch our heart and belly to the earth and shift into our parasympathetic nervous system to relax, let go, listen and restore. When we get down to the earth and organically bow, there is a grounding humility that we are missing in the world right now that we can take refuge in.

Movement meditation with pranams teaches to receive both love and tenderness, and to activate and rise up. That's the other side of prostrations - the empowerment, the triumph, the rising again and again. We have so many physical, mental and emotional stresses that can benefit from this simple ancient, grounding, circulation and joyous movement.

With pranams, or bowing in moving meditation of any level, there is a commitment to tapas, a transformational dedication, a purification through deep listening. When you go for 19, 27, 54, 108 rounds, you are going beyond what we think we can do. We have much greater potential and energy than we are accessing. Flow taps us into effortless effort and tunes us to our hearts like a living prayer wheel.
