Herbal Salve
Soap for the working class.
Anna: I started making soap as a little girl, before I can even remember, for my mother's business. I never intended to carry it on into my own life, fall in love with the whole process, or make a living from it, but here I am with Roots Soap Co.
I started my business after the birth of my second child as a creative outlet in the midst of mothering and family life. I came upon the name one day in the shower; using a bar of my sister's soap and thought "roots. I need to get back to my roots."
I enjoy every part of my process, from sourcing local ingredients, stirring the big pot of soap while reading a good book, and cutting and molding each bar, to working with Darren on the packaging and design aspect. I strive to surprise and delight my customers with quality, beauty and an all around excellent product.
Darren: I've been working on the design and packaging aspect of Roots Soap Co. since the beginning in 2010, and I can also be found marketing, shipping, labeling, and hanging out with our kids.
When I'm not working with Roots Soap Co., I'm at work doing graphic design, and in my spare time I enjoy many activities including reading, drawing, working on or riding my vintage cafe racer motorcycle, spending time with my family, and exploring Portland.

Shop policies
I strive to make the best soap out of the highest quality products I can find. You can find the ingredients for each individual bar under the "show item details" button at the bottom right of the listing. Here is a breakdown of my ingredients:
Base: Coconut oil, beef tallow, olive oil, lye and rainwater. I render the tallow myself from Oregon and Washington raised beef.
Scents: I use only pure cosmetic grade essential oils.
Herbs: varying by the soap, I use many different organic herbs, plants and roots that are beneficial in some way to the skin or the senses.
Oils and moisturizers: cocoa butter, almond oil, wheat germ oil, aloe and shea butter.
Clays and exfoliants: french green clay, french pink clay, french yellow clay, bentonite clay, australian blue clay, walnut shell, luffa, pumice, ground organic oats.
Other ingredients: annatto seed powder, cucumber peel powder, chlorophyll, organic lime peel powder,
All the soaps in my shop are friendly to the earth and gentle to the skin.
