Making organic and raw a poweful statement
I encountered jewelry making while creating handmade Christmas gifts in 2009 in Pasadena, CA. Encouraged by a few friends whom liked what I was designing, I participated in my first show - A Pink Parlor Boutique in Pasadena, CA. I decided to give it a try and see the general public's reaction to my jewelry pieces. It was a success.
Shortly after, was introduced to a jewelry designer in Santa Monica, CA who thought I had an "eye for design" so we accorded to exchange professional services. He thought me the “lost wax technique” and I assisted him with Public Relations which he mostly needed to accommodate his shop's expansion and remodeling process. The lost wax technique consists primarily in creating small sculptures of your original designs in wax which afterwards get casted in a centrifugal machine- losing the wax by means of heat and injecting the metal in the mold created by the original wax. To me, this was the beginning of greater things.
So with this at hand, and of course, encouraged by another wonderful friend who spoke marvels about ETSY, I decided to open a shop and give my new passion another type of try- why not? This is how in 2009 as well, ROQUEROQUE emerged throughout ETSY and has kept slowly but firmly, growing within the incredible world of jewelry making.
Ever since then, I have not stopped my creative journey. Furthermore, after moving back to my hometown Puerto Rico the same year, 2009, I kept taking a variety of metalsmith and jewelry workshops including an Anticlastic Raising Workshop by world known artist Michael Good in 2013 & 2014. By August 2015, I intend to take an advance metalsmith course given by seasoned Puerto Rican designer Michelle Monique to review techniques and acquire additional skills that include stone mounting, water casting, prong settings & more.
