About RosesandRueAntiques

Sales 889
On Etsy since 2013

In praise of the past

While there's something about every period in history that inspires me, the romantic, elaborate, and often eccentric aesthetic of the Victorians remains the most significant influence on my taste. I especially love sentimental items like mourning jewelry, hair work, and love tokens: Literal manifestations of one person's affection for another. I take a fastidious, curatorial approach to collecting, choosing items for their quality, uniqueness, and beauty.

"Roses and Rue" is an early poem by my hero Oscar Wilde, which he wrote for the actress Lillie Langtry. Always fond of dramatic gestures, it's said he used to throw stargazer lilies at her feet. It's not a particularly good poem, but a line that never made it into the final draft is a favorite of mine: "You had poets enough on the shelf- I gave you myself."

Payment
Etsy allows you to pay via credit cards, bank/debit cards, Etsy Gift Cards and Credits, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Android Pay.

Etsy will automatically calculate any applicable taxes based on your state.

Unfortunately, I am no longer able to offer payment plans due to the number of customers who have failed to follow up. If you require a payment plan, I strongly recommend using PayPal Credit, which can be used for any purchase over $99 and charges zero fees or interest if you pay off your balance within 6 months.
Shipping
Most domestic orders ship USPS Priority Mail, which includes:
- Guaranteed arrival within 3 business days
- Tracking
- Insurance up to $50

Ground and media mail options are always available for large or heavy items that will be costly to ship Priority.

I always pack my items with care and provide full insurance at my own expense. As such, I am not responsible for the loss or theft of packages once they have been shipped. Please make sure the shipping address is correct, and consider adding Signature Confirmation to your order if you are concerned that your package may be stolen after delivery. In the unlikely event that an item arrives damaged, you can easily request a refund from the USPS.

International orders ship First Class International, as that is the least costly option. Note that First Class International does not include tracking or insurance. You may select a different service if you wish. Taxes, customs fees, and duty fees vary from country to country, and you are responsible for being aware of and paying those fees.

Orders ship within 5-7 business days, as I usually make one trip to the post office a week. If you need something in a hurry, just ask and I will make sure it goes out right away.

Postage is calculated using the actual weight and measurements of the item when packed. I have no control over the USPS's ever-increasing shipping fees, so please do not ask for discounted or free shipping. Please be advised that Etsy now takes a 5% cut of the shipping fees we collect. Any overages will be refunded.

Questions about shipping? Need a different shipping option? Reach out any time and I will do whatever I can to accommodate your request.
