Rosewood Palace Inspiration:

You don’t know a rose until you have been one. Like most people, things, and places (nouns) -apart from one’s self- we don’t know what it’s like to be who we aren’t. You’ve probably heard someone say at some point in your life, “you don’t know what it’s like to be in my shoes.” They were right, you don’t. They also don’t know what it’s like to be in your shoes, your neighbor has no idea what it’s like to be in your other neighbor’s shoes, etc. Perhaps that’s why it is said to treat your neighbor as you’d treat yourself (just a side thought). The point I’m trying to make here is that every rose has its grace. Some people like to focus on the thorns. Here at Rosewood Palace, we focus on the treasure.

Often times in life, we get caught up focusing on what we don’t want. Over time, we spiral into a downward motion seeing nothing but misery and destruction all around us. To stay positive and focused on the things that we want in life is not always easy. It can seemingly be a treacherous path, like walking the path of a row of rose bushes. Someone’s bound to trip and fall at some point -> into the thorny bushes. However, just as poison can kill someone, it can also be used in small doses to treat someone. Therefore, life is a balancing act. We can’t control everything in our lives.

One day, Saint Francis of Assisi finally stopped praying for there to be no destruction/chaos in the world. He, instead, prayed that he be made an instrument of God’s peace who could weather the storm in the midst of chaos. Knowing that we cannot escape our lives (except through death) and that we must endure, he prayed to be someone who could help make a positive difference in the world. What a defining moment for him. Often times, we create more of a struggle than the one that already exists. Adding to the fire only feeds the fire, right? So, you’ve probably already noticed that I’m a metaphorical-kind-of-speaker. Well, it’s true. So was Jesus. The focus of my store is Mother Mary and her grace. It’s not so much as a religious thing as it is an energetic thing. You see, I grew up Christian, and men were always emphasized in the teachings. I really only remember hearing about the stories of Mary a few times, amongst other women.

In high school, I was obsessed with drawing roses. I recently learned that roses are the queen flowers of the garden. It finally dawned on me that I was connected to Mother Mary more than I had ever realized in my life. Through a series of events, I recognized my bond with her spirit more and more. Eventually, I visited Holy Hill in Hubertus, WI - a cathedral on a hill. It was there that I recognized that without Mary, so many things would not have come into fruition. For me, Mother Mary is a rose.

As we all know, there is femininity and masculinity in our world. Mary is a universal symbol of femininity, in my book. With religion aside, her energy is a loving, healing, forgiving one that makes all things new. I look to use her, as a guide, to cleanse the items I find so that they can go to new homes ready to fill a positive purpose in someone else’s life. Alongside Mary, is the spirit of a pirate named Malachyte (pronounced Ma-la-kite) who spots treasure with an Aventurine stone eye, and Clementine, the spirit of the fox, who is keen and clever. Together, they are a trinity of their own who make a helpful team for my shop and purpose.

I would say that this company is somewhat inspired by Saint Vincent's secondhand store. I have personally shopped there a good # of times and found it to be quite similar to Goodwill. My goal is to create a secondhand store that is a level above both of those stores, in terms of service and products. Then, too, I'd say that this store has also been partly inspired by Hallmark. While living in Wisconsin, I've been inspired by Alex Jordan, the creator of The House on the Rock in Spring Green, WI. He was a collector, like me. My mission statement is to help others recognize the value in items that often are devalued because of the consumerist society mentality of purchasing brand new items versus old items. I want to contribute to helping our society shift in a direction that wastes far less and appreciates far more. Thank you for reading more about Rosewood Palace, and have a blessed day!
