About

My creative life journey

I see the world through rose colored glasses from a unique angle. As a young child I watched the Olympics and declared I wanted to be a “star.” I grew into a shy girl who, ironically, who wanted to blend. I found my love for art in Jr High. I enjoyed being able to express what was on the inside in a visual manner. During those years I entered a photograph in the state fair and won Honorable Mention for “Most Unique Angle”. I continued my art into high school where I ran out of art classes to take. I negotiated with the vice principal and wrote my own independent study photography course.

I went on to pursue a degree in Fashion and Textile Design at the University of Nebraska. I had the amazing experience of learning from world renowned artists turned professors. My mind was captured by Dr. Robert Hillestad and his amazing textile art. Fashion and textile design filled my artistic desires and creativity. I learned I enjoyed the construction methods, taking a flat sheet of fabric and turning into a dimensional piece. As well as transforming fibers into 3 dimensional pieces, building layers, adding structure. It’s all about the process, cause and effect.

My adult years, I let convention and peer influence take over and consisted of mindless corporate jobs. Though I was miserable in my conventional jobs, they taught me I can conquer anything, learn and master anything, endure anything. Experiencing the loss of my job gave me the opportunity to spend more time with my kids and learn how valuable that is. I also had the learning opportunity of starting and operating a painting contracting business with my former spouse. All this occurred while pursing creative endeavors on the side through craft markets and Etsy.

In 2012 I was evicted from my comfort zone with a divorce. I found myself homeless and unemployed. I caved to convention one last time and found a corporate job. The bottom line was, I needed to prove I had a steady paycheck so I could buy a home. This objective has been met. Currently, I am pursuing the new American dream of quitting my day job and creating self-reliance. I am constantly planning my ideal life. Looking at product ideas, growth and expansion opportunities. I see people making this lifestyle work everyday. I have no doubt it will work for me too. Change is only scary while it’s played out in your mind, once you live through it, it’s just life.
