Rush Candle Company - Scents That Take You There

About our "Team"

Katie and Kevin Rush are a husband and wife duo who never imagined they would one day be hand pouring candles! Katie is a full-time English teacher and Kevin is a graphic designer. They have two young children and a crazy, fun, busy life.

Katie's love of candles drove her to start experimenting with making her own and it was love at first sniff! She worked for months on perfecting her "recipe" and technique. Kevin stepped in to handle all of the design work and branding. Together they launched Rush Candle Company in the Fall of 2016 and have loved every minute of it.

Katie loves to try out new fragrance combinations and is always working on the next scent for the shop. Favorite the shop to stay up to date on all the new items coming soon!

Frequently asked questions
How should I care for my candle?

We’re glad you asked! By following these few simple steps, you will get the best burn for your buck!

1. Trim your wick to ¼ - ⅛ inch before every burn
2. Let your candle burn long enough for the melted wax to reach the edge of your container for every burn
3. Do not burn your candle for more than four hours at a time
4. Be safe! Always burn candles in sight, away from combustibles, on a stable surface, and out of reach of children and pets.

Do I really need to trim my wicks?

Yes. Yes. Oh, and Yes! TRIM YOUR WICKS! We know, it sounds a little pretentious, but if you trim your wick to about ¼ inch before every use, you will have one clean burning, long lasting candle!

How long can I burn my candle each time?

We recommend burning your candle at least long enough for the melted wax to reach the edges of your jar (that’s called a melt pool, oh so fancy), but never longer than four hours. If you extinguish your candle too soon, you might end up with tunneling, where your candle burns down and leaves wax at the edges, and nobody wants that!

Why soy wax?

There are so many great benefits to soy candles! Here are a few of our favorites:

1. Soy candles average a 50% longer burn time than other waxes, allowing you to get the most out of your home fragrance.
2. Our all-natural candles are clean burning. The cotton/paper cored wicks produce very little soot.
3. Our all natural soy wax is a renewable resource grown in the United States by hardworking American soy farmers.

So buy a few candles and then go hug a tree!

No really, do it! It’s fun, we promise.

My candle looks like it has some crystals/white patches on the top or sides, what’s up with that?

This is a natural characteristic of soy wax called frosting. While we do our best to make sure your candle leaves our shop looking perfect, we can not control the temperature of your candle while en route to you. Temperature changes and time will create frosting in most soy candles. But, here’s the great news, your candle will still burn cleanly and smell great! Frosting is just a minor cosmetic inconvenience and the price we pay for using eco-friendly soy wax.

My candle looks like it has a wet spot, or air bubble, what’s up with that?

Ready for fancy word? Delamination. Say it out loud, it’s fun! This term refers to the way wax in container candles can pull away from the side of the jar when cooling. The glass jars we use can magnify this slight effect and voila! It looks like your candle is wet or has an air bubble. Rest assured, your candle is A. O.K.! This is very common in container candles and in no way affects the way your scented candle will burn or how awesome it will smell.
