Ruth's Artwork - A Lifetime with Art
While I have been creating artwork most of my life, I started specializing in architectural art and home portraiture almost 35 years ago. It all began after I quit my medical research job when my children were born and my husband started his own construction company. We couldn't afford to have anyone else to do our publicity work so, as the artist in the family, the task fell to me. Fortunately, I liked to work in pen and ink with a color overlay (although mostly for animal portraits up until that time) and this suited our purposes very well.
I taught myself perspective drawing for our company brochures and then expanded into working with other builders, architects, and realtors. Along the way came commissions for gift portraits, publicity portraits, and family home histories. Over the years I have found a real love for the wonderful variations of architecture.
In the last 10 years I have branched out into pet portraits, original linocut and gel prints, acrylic still life and landscape paintings cast paper ornaments. Variety helps keep it all fun and interesting.
A few years ago I was finally able to set up a dedicated studio instead of just a large drafting table and rolling storage shelves in the corner of a room. I now get to look out of the studio windows and often see deer, turkey, and the occasional fox or coyote moving along the lakeside as new inspirations.
