About SacredCake

Sales 6,775
On Etsy since 2007
Video summary: It all starts with the old and forgotten things; rhinestones especially. Resurrected from the shadows and brought to life to sparkle again!

At Sacred Cake, every piece tells a story. A little sparkle to help tell the tale.

It began with a small box of jewelry given to me by my grandmother when I was 7. I was smitten by the vintage iridescent rhinestone necklaces and brooches to use for dress up, but I didn’t have a “public” use for them until the 80’s. I used them profusely to complete the perfect outfit. I was sure that I would become the next fashion model! Well my dear, flash forward five children, two husbands, and no modeling career later, I am now 51 and I have been an entrepreneur since 2007.
When I was 40 and my children were older, I finally had the time to explore my calling. I became inspired to put my assemblage artwork on Etsy, which was well received and loved. I always added something sparkling to my dark and shabby creations. The message being that even in the darkest moments, the light will come. This is something I believe in, because I have lived it. I have seen the darkness, and I have witnessed the light come, always.
I also wanted more meaning in my own adornment. Just because the 80’s ended didn’t mean I could not wear great grandmother’s brooches anymore. I had to reimagine what jewelry could be. The draw to make things from pieces and parts and remnants from the past...bringing them together to create something new and meaningful, became my obsession. I wanted people to be able to wear and enjoy the artwork I created. Over the years, I have made beautiful jewelry for my customers from their grandmothers’ brooches, or even an old photograph encased in resin. I have made bridal jewelry as well from the same meaningful things, entrusted to me across the miles.
I feel like jewelry is an extension of who we are, and sometimes it should tell a story of us, and perhaps an interesting story of where the pieces used for the recreating came from; married to one another to form a new bond of love, with my hands....And if that’s not the corniest thing I have ever said....But it’s true. I am an officiant of love that you can wear...So that you can remember that in the darkest moments, the light will come.
Hang in there. It will.

I found my true passion at age 40. A bit late, but it has been such a joy for me. I began as an assemblage artist more than a decade ago, and now I assemble much smaller things that sparkle a bit more than my assemblages ever did.

Sizing details

Need your piece smaller or larger? I'm always happy to size your pieces larger or smaller at no extra cost.

Do you use real gemstones?

The stones that I use are vintage and antique rhinestones that are not reclaimed from other vintage pieces. I use a finite supply of what is called "New Old Stock" glass rhinestones and Swarovski crystals ranging from the early 1900's to the 1980's. Some are extremely rare and precious!

Do your necklaces contain nickel or lead?

I use solid brass that is specially coated for my gold pieces. For my silver pieces, I use triple plated silver over solid brass.
For my antiqued pieces, I use solid brass that has a special antiqued coating that does not contain nickel or lead.

My earwires are always nickel and lead free!

*A note about my assemblage work.
I cannot guarantee that the chain and elements I use in my assemblage pieces are nickel and lead free. Sometimes I use vintage elements that may bother very sensitive skin types.
