Thank you Sonya, looking forward to putting these to good use!
A passion for bookbinding, an old schoolhouse, great music, and a promise.
I came to binding later in life, after a career as a linguist and teacher in years gone by. The all manual techniques that I use are honest, tactile, and cannot be rushed. That has forced me to slow the creative process and appreciate the beautiful tools, materials, mechanics, skills and ideas that flow in the quiet spaces of time.
Nearly six years ago, we bought an old schoolhouse. Though it was significant to it's rural community, a lovely example of timber frame federation public buildings, and in terrific shape, it wasn't heritage protected. We could have bought land anywhere, but this was a chance to save and restore a piece of history, to settle into and contribute to a village environment, and be able to work from home with a productive garden and orchard to keep us grounded and honest. The schoolhouse has being repaired so all my old bindery buddies (Herc the guillotine, Nipper the table press and Derek the standing press) can feel at home. You can see a panorama picture of them all on my shop banner.
I like all kinds of music in the bindery - Handel, Beethoven, Miles Davis, ACDC, Count Basey, Fleetwood Mac, Vince Jones, James Taylor, and more recently, Adele and Lior. I'm not sure if the music on the day influences the binding, or the other way around.
I made this promise many years ago to my Gran to further the bookbinding skills my late uncle crafted so beautifully, and explore the family gifts that my Gran saw in me. As often happens, life got in the way, but finally I took the plunge and began to craft books by hand. Bless her, she was right.
So, why the name 'Sago on Tuesdays"?
You can read all about that story on my blog. I hope you will venture there and enjoy it.
~Thanks, and my best to you~

RESERVED ITEMS: If you have requested an item be reserved, it is done so happliy for 3 days unless otherwise arranged with me. After that, I will return it to its normal section in the shop. Of course, communication is the key. I'm always happy to make other arrangements so long as you keep in touch. : )
FOR AUSTRALIAN BUYERS:
I send parcels generally by pre-paid satchel, which usually take about 3-6 days. For international shipping, I use regular Sea Mail, as it is the most cost effective for you. If you'd like other options, like Air Mail, insurance, combined shipping, express or registered post, please convo me for a price.
IMPORTANT NOTE: My shipping rates, including the free shipping within Australia, are for standard unregistered mail services unless otherwise stated. I am very careful to take utmost care and transparency when sending items. I take photos of items I have sold once they are packed, postage paid and stamped ready to send, so you can verify if need be that I have paid for shipping and safely sent your item to the address you specified. Unless you have arranged for additional registered mail, I cannot however be responsible beyond that for non-receipt of items. It is very unfortunate, but some etsy players who have seen to profit from falsely claiming non-delivery make honest artists and sellers less generous and more cautious. If you are in any doubt about your postal service, then I urge you to arrange registered postage as I do when making online purchases.
