Announcement   Starting 2017, Saijanide studios is back in California!

Saijanide is a land of custom monster high and other ooak dolls, figures, and original work. The shop moniker is a little bit of a play on words, seeing that my first name is pronounced with a "y", making it easily morphed into the name of the deadly toxin. Dark and deadly may be du jour around here, but it always comes with a generous side of sweetness to help the poison go down ;)

I understand that original artwork can be a big purchase, and am happy to arrange splitting up the payments on my work. Just contact me here on etsy and I will arrange it for you! I create original paintings, art dolls, sketches, and mixed media pieces, and my artistic style tends to be surrealist, dark, and mysterious, but in a fun way! I am also open to create commissioned work that fits within my aesthetics- if you have an idea, feel free to contact me. I hope you enjoy, feel free to contact me with any questions or requests.

About

Saijanide is sugar and spice, and everything nice… with a dash of arsenic, for flavor!

WHAT IS SAIJANIDE?
My artistic moniker was born in a moment of serendipity, discovering that my name, pronounced with a “y”, could be so easily morphed into the word “cyanide”. It fit me and my work too well to just be a coincidence! Saijanide is the world inside my head, full of characters and the stories they wish to tell. They are mysterious little beings, sweet and sassy with a wicked streak. They sing their siren songs and lure you in, and most often inconveniently haunt my brain at 3 am.

IT ALL STARTED WITH…BALLS
Quite literally! It was the first artwork that I ever did, before the age of two, and I proudly named it after what it was. Of course, in little over 20 years there has been much room for growth and improvement, but art has continuously remained a driving force in my life for as long as I can remember. It is hard for it not to be, because I am always inspired by new things, and try to push my artistic horizons accordingly. Whether it is from art history (in particular, the surrealist movement), or my multicultural background, my imagination, or even just the world around, I constantly have a source for new ideas. And, if for some reason I didn’t fill my mad scientist sketchbooks full of sketches and notes on those ideas, I am pretty sure my ideas would somehow conspire to kill me. So if you think about it that way, not only is art my dream and passion, but a matter of life and death!

PLAYING WITH DOLLS
Part of my fascination and love of art dolls stems from the fact that I never really got a chance to enjoy them in my childhood; a strange little girl doesn’t have much interest in your average blonde Barbie. I was much too busy drawing magnificent beasts, or running around on all fours pretending to be a wild wolf-child! (“Where the Wild Things Are” was one of my favorite books for a long time. I even had my own wolf costume!) In fact, the only playtime dolls were involved in was when it was time to feed my plastic dinosaurs. It is only now, so many years, failed experiments, and much research later, that I have come to love dolls because they are MY dolls, little beings from my own imagination. They are my new magnificent beasts, although not all of them have to have fangs like my sketches from childhood. I’ve come to realize that I never had the chance to love dolls, because until now none were suited to me. Malibu Barbie would never be up for howling at the moon with me, but one of my own creations definitely would! It is thrilling to come up with each doll’s concept and personality, to imagine her, sketch her, and then really bring her to life. I feel as if I get to know each one; it is like having an imaginary friend all over again. And I’m pretty sure my inner 7 year old would not let her new friends become dinosaur fodder anymore.

    Owner, Maker, Curator, Artist, Shipping

Hello and welcome to my store! Ever since I was a child I have had a penchant for art and weirdness....I have never been able to outgrow my inner Wednesday Addams! My specialty has always been finding the beauty in the darker side of things in life.

  • Hiisi

Guard Cat, Professional Ankle Biter, Furry Alarm Clock

Hiisi is my buddy, although he isn't allowed to step one paw into my studio! His name is Finnish, and basically translates to "goblin", which is exactly what he is! He makes sure I get up in the morning, and likes to harass me when I'm not working.

  • Nathan Cleary

Husband, Supplies Manager, Provider Of Support And Patience

This is my husband Nate - without him, my artistic pursuits probably wouldn't be possible! He provides me endless support and encouragement, and lets me buy art supplies even when I probably shouldn't. He also puts up with me, which is no small feat!

Payment
I accept paypal as well as credit/debit cards. Paypal can let you use credit/debit cards without creating an account, and I also use Etsy's secure checkout that allows you to also use credit/debit cards or Etsy giftcards. For U.S. customers I may also be able to accept a money order (NO cash or checks though!) Please contact me to coordinate a money order.

I can happily split dolls and other original art pieces up into multiple payments (put them on layaway). I will split the cost up to 3 separate payments. Payments are non-refundable at my discretion should they be canceled before the item is paid for; a minimum 10% fee will be charged for any canceled payment plans.

I can also place items on reserve. Any items on reserve for longer than a week I do ask for a non-refundable 10% deposit. Contact me if interested :)

** Only one doll/piece at a time per customer can be put on reserve or a payment plan. **
Shipping
I currently use Etsy's calculated shipping, which will give you multiple shipping options depending on your location. You should be able to purchase additional insurance should you wish to have it! You are always able to contact me directly about a shipping quote too (especially if wanting to purchase multiple dolls- shipping will actually cost less than what Etsy will try to charge you for)

In cases where Etsy charges you significantly more than what shipping actually costs, I will either upgrade your shipping option or refund the amount. I will also upgrade your shipping from standard to priority if the shipping charges are close :)
Refunds and Exchanges
I do not offer returns or refunds unless an item is grossly misrepresented - and I do my best to make sure that my listings are completely accurate. If you are unhappy with your item for some reason, please contact me.

In the case that an item is damaged upon arrival, contact me and I can see if there is anything I can do to fix it free of charge. I will accept returns on dolls that arrive damaged; this is extremely rare, I've gotten rather good at packing the safely over the years! Remember that shipping insurance is always an option if you are worried!

In cases of refunds, I do not refund shipping charges or pay return shipping.
Additional policies and FAQs
I do not "officially" accept commissions anymore, but welcome customers to bring me ideas of custom projects that they may want. If a project falls within my capabilities and artistic style, and fits a client's budget, we are good to go! Should a client not be able and/or want to purchase such a project when finished, they will however be listed for sale in my store and available to purchase for anyone.
