Announcement   Welcome to S. Alan Woodbine! I make custom furniture from sustainable and reclaimed logs provided by a local tree service, none of the slabs I use come from trees that have been logged. My Mennonite friends saw, air dry and kiln dry the slabs in rural Maryland.

I have scores of large black walnut and Kentucky coffeetree slabs that are currently air drying that will be ready to work later this fall.

I make whatever the slab tells me to make from it, generally dining tables, coffee tables and slabs used for desks, I have shipped them all over North America and delivered them in person all along the mid-Atlantic coast.

Based on what I have in stock or being processed, I can make almost anything to order. For more information on my shop, see my webpage: http://www.salanwoodbine.com

Updates

Finishing up a few more tables to bring to the NYC show next week.
http://www.thebigfleamarket.com/nyc-show/
I have started working with a local artist to create custom metal table legs for my tables.  They are custom for each table and the same price as hairpin legs for any table.  They are very well made and finished with a durable matte black epoxy finish.
I just unloaded a large batch of American elm and black walnut slabs from the kiln and will be working through the stack over the next couple months.

About

Hello!

None of the lumber I have used over the last 10 years has been logged. It has all come from trees that were damaged in storms or had to be removed because they had outgrown their space or were threatening surrounding structures, etc.

Shop policies

Last updated on August 3, 2015
I make furniture in my spare time, mainly over the winter months. The lumber is from local trees that have been damaged or need to be removed because they are endangering nearby structures or have generally outgrown their space. I have them processed (sawed, dried and milled) by the Mennonites around Clear Spring, Maryland.

Returns and exchanges
Furniture cannot be returned. If you are unhappy with your furniture purchase, we will handle it by a case by case basis, please contact us immediately if you have concerns about your furniture. Because of it's large size, we do not ship furniture back.

We accept Credit Cards, PayPal, Bitcoin, personal checks and money orders. If you pay with a personal check, please allow a few days for check to clear before we ship your order, or build your order. Please contact us to arrange "check or money order" payments. If paying with Bitcoin, please use 'Other' as your payment method when checking out, and write that you'd like to pay with Bitcoin in the "Note to Seller" field. Shipping
The shipping amount is just an estimate! If you are somewhere in the mid-Atlantic (central Maryland) you can arrange to pick it up and save on shipping.

Most items are shipped via FedEx Ground; however, we may also use USPS or UPS depending on the item, size and urgency of the delivery. In all cases, a tracking number will be provided.

Very large items, such as dining tables and conference tables among others, may require freight and costs are to be determined. We do our best to ensure reliable delivery while making it as cost-effective as possible given that most of our items are large sizes.

We currently ship to the U.S. and Canada, and will consider shipping outside North America.
Additional policies and FAQs
The imperfections of live edge wood are part of what makes them unique and beautiful and set them apart from manufactured and mass-produced furnishings. These can include knots, checks, small cracks and splits, off-coloration from one part of the wood to another, voids (and other natural holes), inclusions and planer and/or sanding marks among others. In addition, while we joint and plane slabs to be as flat as possible surfaces may still not be completely flat (but always level enough to place items on). Please remember that these imperfections are either inherent in all live-edge wood or a result of the cutting or finishing process and we urge you to look closely at all photos before purchasing and to ask us questions.
