Hi! Welcome to my shop. I am Katie the woman behind Salato, I do everything from creating the patterns to sewing, to shipping out and replying to all the messages. I love what I do more than anything and I am truly so thankful that this is my full time job.
I started Salato in Oct 2012 when my oldest child was 7 months old. I had graduated with my degree in Fashion design and wanted to be able to use my degree and also my passion for sewing and creating but my husband is in the Army and I knew that meant lots of moves in our future. I knew that I had to start my own business so that I could do it wherever we moved. I saw a cute clutch online and thought I bet I can make that but add my own esthetic to it. I started making clutches and beach bags because at the time we lived in Hawaii. All my friends loved my creations and I had a friend that made jewelry and we started selling at a night market once a month together. Both of our businesses took off and 6 years later we both still living our handmade dreams!
I started Salato in Hawaii and since then we have moved to Texas, Colorado, and now finally Washington State which is now our forever home. I was born and raised in Oregon and love being back close to family. Over the last six years my designs have really grown both in style and technique. When I look at my prints I see parts of every place we have lived. I love that I can incorporate inspiration from what I see and love into each of my designs. I am beyond thankful that so many of you love my designs too. I truly put my heart and soul into each piece and I still get a flutter every time someone makes a purchase or leaves a glowing review.
When I am not working you can find me hanging out with my sweet family, I have a very supportive husband who is a Captain in the Army so I also get to be very supportive of his career too. We have two wild little boys who always make every day an adventure. We love living in Washington because we are close to the beach and the mountains. Washington is also a creatives paradise. Locals here LOVE supporting handmade and small businesses. I also love being a part of this amazing community of makers.
