From a Spark of Inspiration to the Next Art Quilt

Hiking in the woods, a snowshoeing trek in the hills or cycling on a country road always provides inspiration for artwork. Capturing both the colors and textures of nature in any medium had always been a struggle. Confetti quilts provided me with the perfect solution to that struggle by creating a painting with fiber rather than paint.

Confetti quilts allow me to use fibers to express the colors and textures found in nature. Batik and hand dyed fabrics cut into tiny, tiny pieces become an infinite pallet of color to use as a paint medium. Like spreading paint on a canvas, fibers are "painted" on quilt batting to create the picture. Yarns and trims provide textural interest and softness to the painting. Metallic fibers and threads add reflections and light sources. The process of quilting gives dimension and depth to the art quilt
