Just received this item, I am in awe. The detail was amazing, Sally nailed everything about this. Even the packaging was exquisitely personal. I have no words for how amazing the portrait is and how happy I am with it. Thank you so much, Sally. I will definitely be purchasing again from you, and will be raving about you to everyone I can! :)

About

My name is Sally Ridge and I am an Australian illustrator, born and bred in lovely, sleepy Perth, WA and living right on the banks of the Swan River.

When I was seven, I told my mum how much I loved drawing, and she suggested I become an illustrator. A capital idea, I thought!

After a long stint at university studying fine art and contemporary design, I graduated with a graphic design degree. Long story short, with more than a little nudge from my husband I have come back to my first love of illustration and truth is, I don't think I ever really left it.

My artwork is made by hand using traditional techniques, using watercolour, with some added pencil for depth, and on luxurious cotton rag. This means my work is wonderfully tactile and textured.

With my trusty, teeny-tiny sable paintbrushes, I use illustration to explore the uncanny and amazing animals and plants around us.

Of course I am obsessed with animals and I love love love drawing pets - can you tell?

Feel free to request a custom order if you would like something you don't see in my shop.

    Owner, Artist

I’m a pint sized illustrator living in sunny Perth, Western Australia. I regularly exhibit and participate in the Perth art scene and I have a knack for drawing beaks, bones, talons, tails, feathers, faces and peepers of all kinds.

My handsome husband Dave takes care of the packing, shipping, scanning, and a myriad of other tasks behind the scenes. He cannot draw for peanuts.

Frequently asked questions

Can you draw my pet horse? Bird? Axolotl?

Of course! I can and will, gladly draw any animal you request.

How long does it take you to do a custom pet portrait?

I will ship your order two weeks from the date of purchase. If you need it sooner, please let me know and I will check my calendar to see if I can accommodate.

Is it a digital file or physical artwork?

Unlike many pet portrait artists on etsy, my work is 100% hand made. I will ship you a lovely watercolour or pencil drawing on gorgeous textured cotton paper. Made with archival quality materials and one of a kind - an original artwork for you to keep!

I don't have a great photo of the pet, what do I do?!

Don't stress! I don't need a very good photo to work from. The best to provide is the one that shows the personality the best. If it is hard to tell the colouring or if any details are missing, you can describe it to me, provide other photos that I can see the detail in a different position, or even google a similar animal as a reference for fur colour, eye colour etc. When in doubt, please feel free to send me a message.

How do I order?

1. Purchase the item of the size, style and quantity of animals you like in my shop.

2. Via etsy message or email (missioncontrol@sallyridge.net) send me a couple of your favourite photos of your pet, along with their name.

3. Sit back and relax! I will let you know if I need any additional information, and I will let you know when I have shipped your order.

4. If you are happy with your order, please do remember to leave me feedback or to recommend my work to a friend. If for some reason you are unhappy, please don't be a stranger - get in touch right away and I will do my best to put a smile back on your dial.

Does it come framed?

Unfortunately shipping frames is incredibly cost-prohibitive and I cannot guarantee the safe arrival of an artwork surrounded by breakable glass. However I do make all my work in sizes of standard frames - all are available at Ikea for a very small price.

How is your artwork packed for shipping?

I take great pride in my packing and the ladies at my local post office are always telling me they are jealous of the orders I am shipping. I pack original artwork in a cellophane envelope to protect it and then pack it in a very sturdy cardboard mailer. Your package will arrive artisanally branded, I have included photos in my listings.

Is the artwork signed?

I hand initial each artwork in an inconspicuous area and stamp my name in the bottom right corner.
