THE STORY OF SALVAGED STUDIO
The inspiration for my vintage map product line came from the serendipitous discovery of a long forgotten collection of maps and bird watching journals. They were stashed away inside a pair of metal file boxes I found in the basement of an old house during an estate sale. I wanted the file boxes for another design projects. Once back at my studio, I began taking out all the maps and journals. The story of a man with a passion for bird watching that took him all over North America began throughout the 1950’s-1970’s began to unfold with each map I opened and journal I flipped through. I was fascinated by this lost adventure story and inspired to find a unique way to preserve and share it.
Salvaged Studio is all about helping you share your world. If you’re searching for handcrafted items that tell the story of where you’re from, where you’ve been or where you’re going, Salvaged Studio is here with ready-made and custom-order map coasters, accessories and jewelry. I enjoy the creative challenge of custom orders and will search my large library of maps and atlases to find all your special locations.
My passion for Salvaged Studio comes from three things: my inner-drive to craft beautiful things with my hands, my lifelong love for creative re-use of old materials, and the joy that comes from sharing my handcrafted work with the world. That passion paired with a few cups of strong black coffee keeps my creative buzz going. At the end of each day, it’s receiving feedback like “I bought this as a graduation gift for a map loving, key chain collecting friend! It was perfect! Thank you!” and “My dad received the coasters I bought him. He loved them, he couldn’t say enough about how beautiful they are!” that makes me grateful for the opportunity to wake up the next day, get back in the studio and do it all again.
Each coaster, necklace and keychain is handcrafted in my studio from vintage maps and atlases, reclaimed ceramic tiles, cork and nickel-free metal jewelry findings. I source my maps from estate sales, used book stores and online. The ceramic tiles are purchased primarily from the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store locations in Milwaukee and Madison, WI.

Frequently asked questions
Is express shipping a "rush" order service?
No, we don't offer a rush service. Express shipping is an expedited shipping method based on the ship date not the order date. Express shipping to US addresses is 1-2 business days (M-F) from the ship date. Express shipping to other countries is generally 3-5 business days (M-F) from ship date. Regardless of shipping method, your order will be ready to ship within 5-7 business days from the order date.
Is this item a digital print?
No, our maps are not digital prints that can be enlarged or decreased. We hand-cut each location from real maps and atlases. If you order Paris, France with Tiny Town, USA, Paris will be bigger than Tiny Town. When picking maps to use for your order, I focus on finding the nicest printed maps at a good scale for the shape and size of the design.
Can I see a map of the location I want before ordering?
We do not offer previews before ordering or artwork proofs. Please refer to our product photos for an idea of how a finished piece will look. We do send a photo of your finished order before packing it for shipping. Occasionally, we may send it after shipping during peak busy times like Mother's Day and Christmas.
Will there be customs fees or import taxes to ship my order from the U.S. to another country?
Unfortunately, we do not have access to this kind of information. Payment of customs fees or import taxes in delivery country is the buyer's or recipient's responsibility. We are not authorized to collect and remit customs fees or import taxes for any country nor do we know when, why, or in which countries they may be imposed. We are not responsible for orders returned to us or marked as "unable to deliver" due to unpaid customs fees or import taxes.
Are delivery dates guaranteed?
I'm not able to guarantee USPS estimated delivery dates for standard shipping. However, I will replace or refund any order damaged (with proof of damage) or presumed lost (no tracking update for 21 days from date of last update in the US or 60 day internationally) by USPS.
If your order is time sensitive and estimated delivery dates for standard shipping are close to the date you need it, you may want to choose express shipping at checkout. I use USPS Priority Mail Express which is 1-2 business day delivery in the US and 3-5 business day delivery internationally (exceptions apply 12/22 - 12/25, see usps.com).
