Announcement   Who we are.......

We are a zero waste textile design company.

Sans Soucie specializes in one of a kind clothing made from remodeled nylon hosiery. All garments are made from bulk nylon hosiery that is hand dyed, cut, silk screened, heat set, and sewn together before it is draped on a mannequin for a custom cut, fit and one of a kind design. This process helps prevent running and pilling of the material and is machine washable and dryable.

Our work combines ready to wear with haute couture detailing which allows for versatility to your wardrobe. Our work can be worn casually or formally and fits all body types especially pre/post and during any pregnancy. If you are looking for maternity clothing than you have come to the right place!

Each piece we make is perfect for traveling as they are extremely lightweight and easy to care for not to mention comfortable!

We use eco-friendly and low impact dyes/ pigments during our production and we are continually exploring and incorporating eco-friendly materials within our collections.

In garments that incorporate other materials aside from our signature hosiery process we only use knits that are made from soy, bamboo, organic cotton or wool that is processed in environmentally friendly facilities.

Our work is easy to care for, great for travel and very comfortable and figure flattering. We love to produce custom work so please feel free to email with your ideas, suggestions and questions.

About

From Waste to Waist

Sans Soucie Clothing and Textile Design is a Vancouver based zero waste company that specializes in one of a kind clothing and textiles produced from textile industry waste.

Since 2003, Katherine Soucie has been developing her signature textile process. The textiles that Sans Soucie produces focuses on utilizing waste hosiery and knits discarded and sold by Canadian textile manufacturers. In the attempt to prevent these materials from ending up in the landfill, Soucie developed this concept in 2002 while she was a textile student at Capilano University in Vancouver, Canada.

Once Soucie obtains her waste materials she begins by hand dying these cast offs before the major reconstruction of these materials begin. From here the materials are cut, sorted, hand printed, hung to dry and heat set before it is formally constructed into a new material. The material is segmented together conjoining the strips of hosiery and knits fabrics until a yardage is formed. After this stage, the material is carefully hand draped on mannequin for a one of a kind fit and design. All materials are utilized in our studio, down to the very last scrap.

Due to the fact that we never know what we are going to receive from our suppliers, our designs emerge in response to the materials we have access to at that time. Our colour palette and imagery is often inspired by history (social, cultural art), music, architecture, travel and nature. The world is our oyster.

As challenging and rather unpredictable as our process can be, we wouldn't want it any other way. The level of problem solving involved in transforming these undervalued materials into a functional material (and end product) not only prevents this material from ending up in the landfill but allows for us to employ a specialized skill set. A skill set that combines traditional artisanal textile and clothing techniques with the makeshift. The makeshift in this case comes in the form of obtaining and adapting obsolete sewing machinery.

Quality is very important to us. We value the hand made and we value tradition. From this mindset, our collections share a history with other makers of heirloom pieces. We want our pieces to continue in circulation for generations to come and hope that they can be passed on or retransformed into something special. That is why we encourage you to consider this when purchasing our work. If you have purchased our work in the past and would like your pieces retransformed into another design, please contact us as we believe our textiles and clothing should continue in circulation and evolve with us throughout the course of our lives as much as we can.

Our garments are extremely versatile, easy to care for and figure flattering. They are perfect for travelling, bodies in transition ( pregnant bodies) and can be easily worn year round casually as well as formally.
