Announcement   SAORI Worcester is a weaving studio in Worcester, MA in US. I, Mihoko Wakabayashi run the studio. If you are interested in the studio, please check out more detail at www.saoriworcester.com, follow saoriworcester on Instagram and Facebook. You will see my and the students' work and our activities.

In the ETSY shop I am selling my creation as well as others, and books. My style of weaving is called SAORI weaving which is an improvisational, contemporary art form from Japan, founded by Misao Jo in 1968, and based on ancient Zen principles of spontaneity and self-discovery. In this weaving method there are mottos we follow.

1. Consider the Differences Between a Machine and Human Being
2. Be Bold and Adventurous
3. Look Out Through Eyes That Shine
4. Inspire One Another, and Everyone In the Group

Since SAORI weaving is inprovisational, free style weaving I never duplicate work. Every piece is one of a kind art work. I sometimes spin and dye my own yarn and combine them with commercial yarn to create unusual look. I wear my SAORI clothing everyday.
I love them. They are part of me.

When I weave, I practice being a present moment. SAORI weaving is also a form of meditaion to me. While I weave I listen to my heart and speak to my soul to get inspirations. When I start weaving a new piece, I usually feel like going to new world where I don't know. I never draw any draft. I don't know how the piece will turn out while weaving. While I enjoy playing with textures and colors, I allow any spontaneous patterns to jump in the middle. It's like a jazz session inside me or making up a dish without any recipes. I hope my art work find a right person to be with.
