About

I design jewelry for anyone who's passed through fire to wear as emblems of triumph.

MY INSPIRATION:

Circumstances don’t determine who you are or who you can become. Instead, your struggles can be powerful catalysts for transformation.

When you are in the depths of struggle, you are at crossroads. On one side, you can choose to stay mired in the plot of doubt, fear and pain. On the other, you can choose to courageously open your heart and vanquish your shadows to realize your fullest potential. You can choose to expand beyond your thresholds and transform the script of your story from defeat and suffering, to overcoming and triumph.

A great source of strength and inspiration for me has been this proverb from my ancestral homeland of Rajasthan, India:

“Gold becomes kundan only after passing through fire.”

Kundan is a unique form of purified 24k gold that’s created by repeatedly firing gold at extreme temperatures till all impurities are burned away. The purified gold is pounded down, burnished into flowing ribbons of kundan and used to set hand-cut gems into intricately enameled bases.

It was only after passing through many fires of my own that I launched my first collection of kundan jewelry in 2007. Since then, designing and collaborating with generational artisans and offering my collection of jewels to you has become a practice to connect to the spirit of transformation and triumph.

I design kundan jewelry as talismans for anyone who’s passed through fire, to wear as a reminder of your story of triumph.

Your story isn’t told by what happens to you. Your story is crafted by the gift of choice. In every moment, you have a choice to act instead of react. With every choice, you manifest yourself anew. You build up and breakdown, like the sacred, eternal dance of Shiva, revealing your own strength, beauty and grace.

My work today is a tribute to my heritage, to perseverance and to the spirit of triumph in you.

CRAFTSMANSHIP:

I collaborate with master artisans from my ancestral homeland of Rajasthan, India to design handcrafted jewels that are meant to be worn as inspiring talismans.
My designs invoke ancient, archetypal symbols that speak to where you come from and allow you to imagine who you can become.

My work as a designer is a way for me to be connected to my roots and forge relationships that overcome boundaries of difference. As an entrepreneur, my mission is to use commerce as a platform to exchange ideas, nourish and uplift communities, and celebrate, inspire and share stories of transformation and triumph.

Every collection is crafted by hand using techniques that date back to the royal courts of 16th century Rajasthan, India. These techniques have been cherished and preserved over generations by master craftsmen who pass down their knowledge in an ancient tradition of apprenticeship.

Patience, skill and a deep love of the craft are the prerequisites of creating these jewels. Every piece is crafted slow, by hand, one-at-a-time. Every aspect of each jewel is hand-crafted: gem-cutting, forging forms with precious metals, enameling and lastly, setting gems with kundan, a unique form of purified 24k gold.

It requires 6-8 weeks and the expertise of four different artisans, each the master of a particular skill, to complete a single piece.

My collections offer a offer a contemporary perspective to an age-old craft using innovative design and reimagining myths and symbols to forge meaning .
After spending years studying these techniques alongside generational craftsmen and jewelers, I produced my first collection in 2007 in collaboration with a team of adventurous artisans from my ancestral homeland of Rajasthan, India.
Your support and patronage allows me to continue sharing this art form in a meaningful way.

Hello! My name is Sapna and I am delighted to share my creations with you on Etsy!

I am inspired by the 400 year-old jewelry making techniques from my ancestral home of Rajasthan, India. I use traditional methods peppered with some innovative updates and fuse them with a cosmopolitan sense of aesthetics to create jewelry that is for the "Global Soul".

My work is a collaboration of my vision and designs brought to life by the skilled, generational, artisans that I work together with. My jewelry collections are lovingly crafted by hand and every piece has a specific inspiration and meaning.

In all my pieces, I use a special form of pure, 24k gold called kundan and I am especially inspired by a proverb from Rajasthan, India that connects the process of creating kundan with the triumph of the human spirit:

"Gold becomes kundan only after being tempered in fire."

Kundan is created by repeatedly firing unrefined gold at extreme temperatures until all impurities are burned away, revealing purified gleaming, 24k gold - kundan.

The proverb speaks to all the experiences that we face and the struggles we overcome that make us who we are. In facing and overcoming our struggles, our strength, beauty and grace is revealed, turning us into pure gold. We are all exactly where we are meant to be on our journey. I use kundan in my jewelry as a metaphor of the spirit of strength, beauty and triumph that lies within us all.

A NOTE ABOUT MATERIALS & CARE:
I use only natural, untreated gems, precious and semi-precious metals (nothing is gold-plated or gold filled), and I am committed to ethically sourced materials and practices.

Since the gems are natural and untreated, no two gemstones will look exactly alike. This lends to the inherent beauty of gemstones and to the luxurious, rustic aesthetic of my designs.

Please follow the care instructions you received with your purchase to cherish your jewelry piece for years to come.

MADE TO ORDER:
Some of my pieces are available as made-to-order. These pieces will start the production process after you place your order. Due to the meticulous handmade techniques used to craft my jewelry, it will take approximately 6-8 weeks to complete your piece. I will do my best to ship it out as soon as possible. If you would like any additional customization, please contact me.

WHOLESALE:
I do accept wholesale orders from eligible customers. Please contact me and I will send you a wholesale request form and relevant information.

REPAIRS:
As long as you follow the care instructions included with your jewelry, you will be able to enjoy your piece for a lifetime (if not longer). I have pieces made in this technique that I've inherited from my great-grandmother and are in pristine condition.

However, sometimes jewelry needs repair! Never, never, never try to repair this jewelry yourself or by another jeweler. Trying to solder the piece or using any commercial cleaners will damage the piece beyond repair.

This jewelry is made using techniques that were developed in the 17th century and needs to be repaired using those same methods by skilled master artisans. Please contact me, and I will get back to you with an estimate for the cost of repair and the time it may take to repair your piece.
