What a great idea to use watercolor paper for a coloring book! It adds another dimension to my coloring therapy because I can blend and mix easily. I've used both watercolor pencils and Tombow pens with much success. Beautiful designs!

About

What I love about blank books is the promise that anyone can be creative.

Ever since quitting my desk job writing language proficiency exams, I have dedicated myself to creating something with my hands every single day. I found the Center for Book Arts in NYC and volunteered there for three years, learning everything I could about bookbinding, box making, and letterpress printing, and now enjoy sharing what I've learned with the world. I especially love working with customers on custom projects, creating something that neither of us could have fully envisioned by ourselves.

I have always had a deep affection for blank books and my interest in binding them stems from reading Ink Heart in high school. The internet had little to say on the subject back then, so it took me several years to learn enough to feed my passion.

Welcome to Sappling Bookcraft and Letterpress! I am a linguist by day, a binder by night, and a printer on the weekends. I love everything about what I do--folding sheets of beautiful paper, sewing book blocks, carving linoleum blocks, and printing. The zen of working with my hands has been with me my whole life, starting with growing up on a farm and continuing through grad school. My upbringing as a Mormon farmgirl in southern Utah and my subsequent relocation to New York City lead me to many surprising places for inspiration. All of my prints go through a process of sketching--sometimes over and over again--transferring to the block, carving, proofing, and finally printing. Because I sketch so much, I go through a lot of sketchbooks and I can't stand a spiral bound sketchbook--the pages get damaged so easily--so I bind my own sketchbooks, and the books you will find in my shop are all formatted for the sizes, orientation, durability, and functionality that I value for myself as an artist.
