My creative self in five words: Emotional. Passionate. Driven. Intuitive. Dedicated.
I like to think of myself as a sort of a hybrid fine artist, illustrator and designer. I use traditional and non traditional materials to create most of my art and design work and try to keep digital elements to a minimum. My belief is that there is nothing like the feeling of paint on your hands and nothing like the look and energy of watercolours bleeding or real brushstrokes on canvas. There is something fundamentally special about works of art which are crafted by hand.
My great love is painting. It is the way I most prefer to express my emotions, my thoughts, my connection to the Earth and to the Universe. I love painting portraits, I think because you can depict so much emotion in the human face. I think in images and I have a very vivid inner eye. If there is a concept I want to explore, I focus on how I can illustrate it visually to give it as much impact as the written or spoken word. I think this is the power of art and it is universal. I love when I see people emotionally connecting to my art.
Most of my work is borne of my imagination and inspired by autobiography, dreams and waking visions. I have a very intrinsic need to express my emotions, either with images or the written word or both. My work focuses on the female form and explores the feminine. Women are the main protagonists in my art, each telling their unique story and my story.
I see art making as a type of building process. Before starting work I draw plans and then think about and assemble the materials I need to construct a piece in such a way for it to reflect the colours, textures and depth I want it to communicate to the viewer. I tend to work in mixed media because I don't like restricting myself to just one media, although I use acrylics as my staple in most works. If I am working on paper, I also have a love for ink, gouache and watercolors. I love texture and I use it frequently through collage and recycled materials such a vintage books and paper.
I love commissioned work and enjoy the process of creating works of art for clients which express something of great personal importance to them or subjects which they are passionate about. I encourage anyone who feels as though they would like a commissioned piece of artwork to please do not hesitate to get in contact for a no obligation quote.
Thank you for taking the time to find out a little bit about me and the work I do. I hope you enjoy your experience in my store.
