About

How Sarah Edmonds Market began

I'm Sarah, an illustrator and designer living and working on the Sussex coast. I am inspired by mid century children’s books, wildlife and gardening, and I love a good pun! My best selling collection features bird charts of ‘Tits’, ‘Boobies’, ‘Peckers’ (and so on), and I am currently working on some new designs for this range.

My shop began in time for Christmas 2013, to compliment the markets where I was selling my prints, cards and bags in person. I had just decided to take the plunge and pursue my illustration work full time, in addition to relocating to Sussex from Wales. So this was the perfect time to embark on becoming an Etsy seller.

My work is created using a fusion of hand drawn and digital (Photoshop) methods, depending on the project. The journey between idea and product always begins with crayons, pens and paper. I keep a scrapbook of images, colours and textures which I draw upon when creating a new design or colour palette. This ensures that the unique hand drawn quality, or handmade technique, for each image forms its foundation. My digital techniques enhance and develop this, rather than eclipse it. I blend bright colours with wonky shapes to add character and warm to each illustration.

Once designed, I work with several UK based companies to produce my gift items, packaging them in a simple and attractive way to sell. Many of my designs are available across a number of products, including greetings cards, prints and textiles. Since 2016 I have added tea towels into the mix, and they have been extremely popular with a wide appeal throughout the year. In early Autumn of this year I am launching a 2018 calendar featuring 12 pun charts.

In all my work I love to make people giggle and embrace their mischievous side. My collections are especially popular with garden, bird and word enthusiasts and have a strong following on social media and in the shops and museums who stock my products.

If you would like to become a stockist of my work please contact me for more information.
