About

Classical Techniques in a Contemporary World

I have known I would be an artist for as long as I can remember. You may be familiar with a children's book author Richard Scarry, his books are filled with cute animals dressed in their career outfits. I saw the artist dog and I knew that was the job for me. When I was older, I studied contemporary art at Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, and then studied classical realist art at a private atelier in Southern Oregon.

I have a home studio that I work in and I teach drawing and painting every week in town at Ashland Art Center. I enjoy getting out of the studio a little and being involved in the art community by volunteering as a docent at the Schneider Museum of Art and I serve as President of the Ashland Gallery Association.

Ordinary, practical, honest things are my favorite subject matter. I like to paint what I'm seeing in front of me, being in the same room with my subject makes it more intense, I'm taking in the smells, I can feel it, walk around it, talk to it.

When I get started painting, look out, I will be focused for hours and hours! Forget making dinner folks, it's all painting and contemplation. I like to listen to music, books on tape or public radio shows like Fresh Air and This American Life while I work. I keep a hammock in the studio so I can relax and look at what I'm working on. When I get into the zone, it's amazing and exhausting and I get into the zone every chance I get.

Thank you for considering a purchase of a fine art original. Artwork lasts for generations. It represents your values and cares. It is a meaningful connection to humankind in the past, present and future. I feel strongly about the integrity of my work, so I always sell original art (well, I've added some prints, but I like to sell original art the most!) and always use the best available materials.

Shipping
Artwork you purchase from me is shipped with special care. Drawings are inside a plastic sleeve with a stiff archival card so support it, then I surround that with thick double walled cardboard which I put inside a padded envelope. Paintings are shipped well protected in sturdy boxes with internal cardboard support and clean, un-inked newsprint for cushioning.

I purchase insurance for all US bound items and generally ship priority USPS, although sometimes UPS is a better option. International orders ship USPS and if you would like insurance on these items contact me, extra shipping costs will be required.

I generally ship ready made artwork within two business days of purchase. If there is any delay, I will keep in touch. You will receive a notice from me when your item ships. Custom work varies and I will keep you informed of the process so you can know when to expect your item.
Refunds and Exchanges
I will exchange any purchase within a month of purchase date, buyer covers all shipping costs.

US Orders: If there are any damages during shipping, you will be refunded the amount the purchase price - through the USPS or UPS shipping insurance process.

Outside US Orders: If there are any damages during shipping, IF YOU HAVE REQUESTED AND PAID EXTRA FOR INSURANCE, you will be refunded the amount the purchase price - through the USPS or UPS shipping insurance process. IF YOU HAVE NOT REQUESTED AND PAID EXTRA FOR INSURANCE and loss or damage during transit occurs, I will offer you a replacement painting or drawing of equal or lesser value than the purchased piece.
