Beautiful print - the perfect gift for my sister who lives in Ontario but is very much a New Brunswick girl at heart.

A Hobby Evolves...
My name is Sarah Duggan and I am a watercolor artist, living and working in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
Since the time I could hold a crayon, I have been making art.
I discovered watercolor as a teenager and fell in love with the medium. I was encouraged and supported by my art teachers and parents to pursue painting, and spent a great deal of my free time through those years exploring my style.
Through my teenage years and into adult hood, painting was a constant source of relaxation and an outlet for any emotion. Pulling out my paint set has always been a "happy space" for me. From 18-30 I moved around a lot, throughout Canada, to South Korea and throughout Asia, to South Florida and then home again to Nova Scotia. I have always painted, wherever I've been, most of my inspiration coming from whatever wildlife and nature surrounds me.
It was in 2013, while living in Florida with my husband, that i heard a story about Etsy on NPR. I decided to open a shop to just for fun! I was working full time as a teacher at the time and started by posting some of my travel photos, and a few little illustrations, hand made cards and eventually prints.
Later that year we moved home to Nova Scotia to have our first child. I turned to painting any time I could during my year of maternity, and because going back to work would also mean finding a new job, I thought it could be a great opportunity to stay home with Oliver and have a crack at starting a real business! My sales on Etsy had started to pick up a bit during that year, and as a result, a few local shops were carrying my work. It felt like the right time.
With the incredible support of my husband, we decided to turn the hobby into a full time career. Through a lot of hard work, commitment, learning and support, my business has grown each year, both on Etsy and in my community, and I feel so fortunate to say that it is how I make a living now. Painting things that make me happy and sharing them with others is extremely rewarding and a true labor of love.
Sarah Duggan Creative Works is my full time gig (second to parenting my two little ones, Oliver and Lillian). I work out of my home studio in Dartmouth and am constantly navigating the work/life balance of being a small business owner (but hey, aren't we all?)
Etsy has enabled me to have this freedom with my family and follow a dream. I am incredibly grateful for this journey and look forward to seeing what's next!
Thank you for supporting my work, my business and allowing me to do what I love.
Sincerely, and Always Grateful,
Owner, Creator, Maker
I'm Sarah- the owner and "creative" of Sarah Duggan Creative Works! I do everything from painting to shipping, and absolutely love it! I work from my home studio in Dartmouth Nova Scotia, where I live with my husband, two children and greyhound.
My shop features prints and cards from my original watercolor and gouache paintings. My works are inspired by the natural beauty in this amazing world! I believe that the things we surround ourselves matter and that having happy art is important for happiness! I hope you can find a piece you connect with to bring a little happiness and nature into your space.
