Sarah Whyte Ceramics

I am a university student pursuing a fine arts degree in drawing and painting, a recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation grant, and I love creating things of all types. Art is a part of who you are rather than something you do - many artists could never see themselves pursuing a career in anything else, myself included.

In my shop, I sell my ceramic work. I was fortunate enough to come across the means to set up my own little ceramics studio in my home in late 2013, though I have been passionate about ceramics since 2009 when I was first introduced to them.

I have always been quick to learn and excel at new skills, but when I first tried out ceramics, I was terrible for a long time, and no amount of planning or effort was making it any easier. Everything I made turned out differently than I hoped, broke during production, or, if I managed to make a piece I liked, the glaze would come out wrong. That’s what motivated me to keep going (and become a little bit obsessed, really).

I learned that to be happy with your ceramics, it’s important to understand that you can’t control the outcome of everything; clay is going to do what it’s going to do, and glaze is going to react to the heat however it wants to. It’s all about learning to work with your materials rather than try to make them work with you. Years later, I’m confident in my skill level (I can finally translate a sketch into a finished piece that I’m happy with!), but I’m still motivated to keep going and improving. Now, I paint and learn and discover at school, and come home to work on my pottery.

I decided to open my Etsy shop with the hope that I could reach an audience outside of the little one that I had, and finally make enough doing what I love that I don't have to do anything else. I want people to be able to own a piece of artwork created with love and passion to bring joy and interest to their day-to-day life, whether that be through admiring a painting on the wall or drinking from a unique and beautiful mug. I often find myself noticing new and interesting colours in my ceramics months after creating them!

It brings me joy using the handmade pieces that I've collected - knowing that the artist's heart and soul and years of practice have gone into that piece, and I want others to have that opportunity aswell. If you don't buy from me, please still buy handmade!

I sell my paintings, linoprints, greeting cards and other artwork in my fine art shop, which can be found here:

I sell my handmade ceramic supply pieces such as buttons and beads here:
sarahwhytesupplies.etsy.com

I also sell my antique store finds in my vintage shop, which can be found here:

Thanks for taking the time to look through my shop,
Sarah

Hi, and thanks for visiting my shop! I am a painting student with my own little home ceramics studio. Everything I make I do while exploring new techniques and designs. Creating things is my passion and I hope you can enjoy my work as much as I enjoy making it.

Frequently asked questions
Care instructions

Most of my work is dishwasher and microwave safe, though all ceramics may develop faults if not taken care of properly. To insure your pottery lasts a lifetime, please hand wash and avoid microwaving frequently. My pieces decorated with 14k gold are not microwave safe due to the metal.

Sizing details

Don’t see a size in a listing? Send me a message and I’ll be happy to let you know! I am slowly adding the measurements to all of my listings, although each piece is one of a kind and it’s a big job, so some listings are still without it.

Need a specific size? I’d be happy to set you up a custom listing and make a piece just for you!

Wholesale availability

I offer wholesale prices on certain items, send me a message for more information.

Custom and personalised orders

Please send me a message if you wish to have a custom order made and we can discuss the details. I can customize the colour or size of an existing design, or create something from scratch.

When requesting a custom order, please include the following:
- Your postal code/zip code, and country
- Any time deadline you may have
- Any specific dimensions you need

If you would like a simple variation of something that I already have listed, the price will be the same. For more detailed custom orders like adding text to a piece, the price will be higher.

Payment is due after the details are worked out and before physical creation is started.

Gift wrapping and packaging

Because of the delicacy of ceramics, my items are packaged as well as possible to make sure that they get to you without any damage. I send all of my items boxed and wrapped in paper and bubble wrap.

Gift wrapping is available on some items upon request. Please send me a message to discuss it if you'd like an order gift wrapped.
