These cute stickers come with each of my planners. Mark your special days, decorate your pages, organize some tiny notes. They come in a lovely neutral abstract pattern, which makes them perfect for both a minimalist planner and a crazy page decorator.

About

Handmade notebooks from Hesinki, Finland

I believe that you can be both organized and creative. More than that, creativity can be organized and organizing can be inspirational. That is why I love to create products that help you stay organized and keep you inspired at the same time. With every notebook and planner I design I want to give you a frame, a foundation to keep your thoughts, plans and ideas in place, but I keep them simple enough to leave room for your own self expression and creative exploration.

I am all about putting your pen to paper as a starting point for any project or adventure. For me, when something is not on paper it does not exist. That is why I love paper products. I use them, design them and make them every day.

WHERE I CAME FROM

I was born in a small city in the north of Russia where I spent cold and dark winters knitting, drawing, playing music and teaching my toys everything I learned at school. Having spent the beginning of my adult life getting an education and trying to find a job in a field I do not see myself in, I finally decided to go back to where I started: creating and teaching others everything that I learn along the way. I picked up knitting, learned to crochet, tried loads of different crafting techniques. I made my first hand-bound notebook around the same time I started working at a printing house and that is when I realized that turning piles of blank paper into beautiful paper products that I can hold in my hands is what I love doing the most.

Nowadays I live in the capital of a small Nordic country called Finland with my amazing and very supportive husband and our cat Notka. I am finally spending those dark and rainy winters doing what I love: drawing, designing patterns and binding books.

My notebooks are my best friends, they know everything about me. They know my plans and goals, they know what I got done and what I’ve been slacking on. They see all my sketches no matter how pretty they are (believe me, most of them are not!) They know everything I’ve learned so far and what I would still like to improve on. They know what my next line of products will look like before anyone else sees it.

I started my business to share my love for paper products, planning, setting goals, keeping yourself organized, inspired and creative. I hope each of you, fellow notebook lovers, will find your new paper friends here!

SUSTAINABILITY

It very important for me to be as friendly to nature and the environment as I can. In my everyday life I often make choices to not consume products that I do not absolutely need. That leads me to being very careful with the choices I make for my business, since I am selling physical products myself. That is why I do my best to use recycled, repurposed or natural materials whenever possible. All my notebooks are made with recycled paper and carton produced from 100% post-consumer waste. I reuse shipping materials whenever possible and recycle all paper waste gathered during production or reuse it for scrap/testing purposes. I encourage you as my customers to recycle or reuse the products you receive from me as well as all of the packaging that comes with them. I am always researching on new ways to make my business more eco-friendly and looking for sources of sustainable materials I can use.

DESIGN

I am a minimalist when it comes to designing and creating. I truly believe than taking away is always better than adding. I always see beauty in simple things and simplicity always inspires me. By keeping my designs simple I leave room for you to express yourself and make your notebooks feel truly yours.

Love,
Sasha

Frequently asked questions

HOW FAST DO YOU SHIP?

I ship items that are in stock within 3 business days after payment. If you purchased a "made to order" item, please give it up to two weeks for production and shipping.

WILL I HAVE TRACKING NUMBER FOR MY ORDER?

I use Priority Letter postage for all my orders. This option does not include tracking information. I use this option because it provides fast shipment while still being affordable for my customers. If you'd like me to use a different shipping option for your order (e.g. registered letter or express shipping), contact me with an Etsy conversation or at shop.sashakretova@gmail.com

HOW DO YOU MAKE YOUR NOTEBOOKS?

For my handmade notebooks I use a special book binding technique, that is similar to coptic binding. I purchase pre-cut paper, print pages, when needed, fold the paper into signatures, poke holes in the spine and bind them using good old needle and thread. For hardcover notebooks, in addition to that, I also make covers by glueing fabric onto heavy cardboard. It is a time consuming and very precise process, that takes a lot of practice to perfect, but I love it with all my heart and can never get tired of doing it.

Saddle-stitched notebooks are printed and bound at a small printing house in Tallinn, Estonia.

Check the video of my process and read more about how I started on my About page.

HOW DURABLE CAN HANDMADE NOTEBOOKS BE?

The binding is very durable in all of the notebooks I make. If your notebook is going to experience heavy use (e.g. carried in a large bag with lots of other objects every day), I would suggest you purchase one of the hardcover ones, as the soft covers are more likely to get ripped and worn out with heavy use. If you will keep you notebook on a desk, bedside table or in a tight and tidy bag, any of my notebooks will keep its shape just fine.

ARE YOUR NOTEBOOKS SUITABLE FOR DRAWING/PAINTING?

Sketchbooks and journals are! I use medium heavy 160 gsm white uncoated recycled paper. It is thick enough to not let sharpies or watercolors show through. It is smooth, which makes scanning it much easier. Just make sure to select blank pages when you purchase.

Saddle-stitched notebooks are also great for drawing and writing with pens and pencils and even work with some ink pens. They are made of 115 gsm white uncoated recycled paper, which is heavier than your regular notebook paper, but a bit lighter than the paper in my sketchbooks and journals. If you use paints and dark markers, they might bleed through to the back of the pages. You can use every other page in those cases.

I WISH YOU MADE A PLANNER / RECIPE BOOK / TO-DO LIST / BIRTHDAY BOOK / TRAVEL DIARY IN YOUR STYLE

They are coming! I am always developing new books and I'd love to hear your ideas and wishes, so please, e-mail them to me to shop.sashakretova@gmail.com. If you'd like to be the first to know about new products, make sure to join my e-mail list here: http://eepurl.com/bpx-_z (you'll also get 10% off!)

I can mix and match the covers and inlays in most of my handmade books, so if you like the pages of one book, but want them in a cover from a different one, send me a message and I'll see what I can do!

I CAN'T FIND THE ANSWER TO MY QUESTION
