Handmade notebooks from Hesinki, Finland

My name us Sasha. I’m a designer, illustrator, and musician living in Helsinki, Finland, with my husband and our cat Notka. I love simple things: drawing, baking, pretty patterns, exploring the city on my bike, (vegan) pizza, house plants, relaxing with a cup of green tea, playing drums or ukulele, and cuddling with my cat.

I was born in a small city in the north of Russia, where I spent cold and dark winters of my childhood knitting, drawing and playing music. Having spent my early adult life getting an education and trying to find a job in a field I did not see myself in, I finally decided to go back to where I started: making things with my hands and being creative. When I made my first hand-bound notebook I realized that turning piles of blank paper into beautiful paper products is what I love doing the most.

I started my own stationery brand in 2014, designing and making notebooks, sketchbooks, planners and selling them in my online shop. I picked up illustration soon after that, which lead me to adding other types of products to my line as well as getting into custom illustration work.

If you enjoy stationery and illustrated goodies, take a look around my shop. If you have a custom illustration idea, a question or just want to say hello, drop me a line, I'd love to meet you!

Frequently asked questions

I ship orders every Wednesday. You will get an email notification when your order has been shipped.

I use Priority Letter postage for all my orders. This option does not include tracking information. I use this option because it provides fast shipment while still being affordable for my customers. If you'd like me to use a different shipping option for your order (e.g. registered letter or express shipping), contact me here on Etsy or at

For handmade planners, sketchbooks and journals I use a special book binding technique, that is similar to coptic binding. I purchase pre-cut paper, print pages, when needed, fold the paper into signatures, poke holes in the spine and bind them using good old needle and thread. For hardcover notebooks, in addition to that, I also make covers by glueing fabric onto heavy cardboard. It is a time consuming and very precise process, that takes a lot of practice to perfect, but I love it with all my heart and can never get tired of doing it.

Saddle-stitched notebooks are printed and bound at a small printing house in Tallinn, Estonia.

The binding is very durable in all of the notebooks I make. If your notebook is going to experience heavy use (e.g. carried in a large bag with lots of other objects every day), I would suggest you purchase one of the hardcover ones, as the soft covers are more likely to get ripped and worn out with heavy use. If you will keep you notebook on a desk, bedside table or in a tight and tidy bag, any of my notebooks will keep its shape just fine.

Sketchbooks and journals are! I use medium heavy 160 gsm white uncoated recycled paper. It is thick enough to not let pens, fine liners, water-based markers or watercolors show through. It is smooth, which makes scanning it much easier. Just make sure to select blank pages when you purchase.

Saddle-stitched notebooks are also great for drawing and writing with pens and pencils and even work with some ink pens. They are made of 115 gsm white uncoated recycled paper, which is heavier than your regular notebook paper, but a bit lighter than the paper in my sketchbooks and journals. If you use paints and dark markers, they might bleed through to the back of the pages. You can use every other page in those cases.
