Here is my studio. It is a cozy, inspiring area heated by a wood burning stove.

This is the antique loom that I weave on. It was designed to be used for factory weaving in the early 1900s.Edit

These are the shuttles. They are about a foot long, and made of wood and metal. They hold the fabric while I weave.
A love of Weaving
The prairie- to some, it evokes images of flat, endless land. To me, it stands for the hard working families that first settled there. It holds the stories of my families- the ranchers, farmers, and Native Americans that comprise my heritage. To me, the prairie is a wonderful place full of inspiration. This website is full of what my family may have used, made, or loved in their simple prairie homes.
I make rugs on an antique loom that has been restored. The loom is a Deen loom, and was manufactured around 1910 in Harlan, Iowa. It is truly a piece of work in itself. While weaving, I often wonder about the previous owners of the loom. What stories it could tell if only it could talk!
The love for weaving and rugs was kindled when I was four years old. I first saw a loom while visiting some relatives, and was awe struck. The process was something that amazed me, and I knew that someday, I wanted to be able to weave.
Dad and Mom put up with many years of me "weaving" rugs out of twine strings on gates, as well as on the legs of the kitchen table. A little string, some childish imagination... as well as a set of parallel bars, and I was "weaving" happily.
My rugs are made from repurposed material, as well as new fabric. Some of the rugs have a sentimental value. Perhaps my Grandpa's jeans are woven into it, or that special skirt can be used again. Each rug is unique and special.

Frequently asked questions
Care instructions
To clean your rugs, a gentle shake outdoors is usually all they will need. For a deeper cleaning, hand wash cold and line dry.
Sizing details
All of the sizing for an item is listed in the description. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.
Gift wrapping and packaging
Items are always packaged with the idea that it is a gift. Tissue paper and ribbons are used, so items are gift ready when sent. If you let me know that an item is a gift, I will not enclose a packing slip. No one wants the recipient to know how much a present cost!
Custom rugs
Many factors play into making a rug, so the best way to know if I can make something for you is just to ask. Sometimes I have inventory that is not listed on Etsy, so I may have something that would suit you.
Once we discuss and agree on exactly what you want, I will create a custom listing for you. A 50% deposit is required. Once the deposit has cleared, I will start working on your order. Allow 2-4 weeks for completion. When the weaving is complete, I will send you pictures of your item. If you love it, I will make a custom listing for you, and you will be able to purchase it.
What if my item arrives damaged or not as described
All of the shipments are very carefully packaged, but sometimes damage occurs during transit no matter what care is taken. Let me know if your item arrives damaged in any way. I will need photos of the damage and/or the item returned prior to issuing a refund or replacement. Refunds will be for the full purchase price, minus shipping charges.
If you feel the item itself was misrepresented in any way, please let me know. I do my best to describe and photograph each item correctly to represent accurate color, size and detail. Please ask all questions prior to purchasing. Likewise, please contact me with any concerns prior to leaving a review. I will do my best to make every customer happy!
How do you figure pricing on shipping?
I use the United States Post Office for shipping, and use either First Class or Priority mail classes. First Class is used for items under 1 pound, and Priority is used for over 1 pound. I have found that these shipping classes are the best for speed and price. I refund any shipping charges that exceed what I pay.
Do you recycle shipping boxes, or am I paying for a new one?
I recycle clean boxes and wrapping material whenever possible. My customers don't have to pay for fancy shipping materials! Recycling keeps my shipping costs as low as possible.
