About

Staying Forward

Before Savory Junk came to fruition, I had a mobile alteration business here in the Portland area. Alteration Angel, as it was named, would come to your house or place of business and fit you on the spot, then drop off alterations once they were complete. It was successful with only one problem...this was not what I had dreamed of. I felt more like a one woman sweat shop and because I was newly out of school, I felt as though I was learning how to do everything for the very first time. By throwing myself into the complicated position of tailor/seamstress, I was forced to learn the proper methods of measurement and construction. Soon I became more comfortable with the silhouettes of garments and contours of the human body.

The name, Savory Junk, was derived from modifying old garments. When the recession hit, shopping retail seemed like a privilege 99% of people deemed unobtainable. Still needing to satisfy my fix, I began to shop for garments (ie. beat up shirts, floral moo-moos, distressed denim) that stirred up a vision. I sifted through thrift stores and clothing bins by the pound. You'll find my Levi Pendleton jackets on this site as well as leather bags and quality vintage.
